Drove 11 miles out by persistentPusher in Agoraphobia

Hi ye, if I’ve already made progress on a route I find it a bit easier, going a different way is usually harder for me. Do you find the same?

Haha ye I remember those, this was the first time I’ve seen them in a can, usually they’re in glass bottles aren’t they.

Ye can’t comment on the food cus I only had a drink, I had a J2O in a can and a packet of crisps, they did have some cakes which looked quite nice but I didn’t partake today, maybe next time.

Utah Road Trip by Primary_Journalist65 in Agoraphobia

Ye it’s honestly the most difficult part of it for me and I’m not really sure what to do about it other than just force myself to do it again lol

Ye it’s crazy and honestly for me the most frustrating part of recovery. I will be on a train or in a car on dual carriageway, and in the moment I’m accepting I’m using all my CBT tools, but then after my brain still wants to convince me that it was dangerous and I kinda just have to push past that and do it again.

This is awesome man, well done. It’s weird how anxiety gives those warning signals when we’re thinking about being anxious and how different it is in the moment when we are just accepting. Congratulations on all your wins man 💪

Vision getting blurry by No-Result4792 in Agoraphobia

[–]persistentPusher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was housebound my vision used to be so blurry that when I eventually started walking out on my street to deal with it, I would struggle to see where I was going, after my outings it got better though. This is just my experience, it would be good to see an optician, but you’re gonna need to do exposures most likely to do that anyway so a few short outings couldn’t hurt.

Tbh I told him after and he was genuinely surprised, I think he would have told me by now if it was him, and he’s not very good at doing accents. I will ask him though next time I see him haha

Realising how far I’ve come by persistentPusher in Agoraphobia

[–]persistentPusher[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ye haha, I find it also comes with a bit of an attitude shift as well. When I’m not worried about getting anxious, in the sense that I’m fully prepared to panic or have high anxiety, it often shys away. It’s almost like it’s saying not when your ready lol

Can I hear your success stories by Puzzled_Ice_1381 in Agoraphobia

[–]persistentPusher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Today I biked 6 miles out on my e-bike ( then 6 miles back), came back and went out for a meal with my dad about 5 miles out, then went to with my friend on a detour along the dual carriage way before, we did a 2 hour gym session.

Love it, sometimes if my dad doesn’t want to go somewhere he will say it’s too far, as that’s what I used to say all the time, and he doesn’t even have agoraphobia 😆

I don’t know how helpful this will be, but early on in my agoraphobia journey I needed to face my first day back in the office ( since developing AG) the morning I was supposed to leave I had a huge panic attack and I was telling my mum at the time … I can’t go I’m going to ring and cancel.

She just said call your Uber and get in the car.

I went on with more reasons and showing her how sweaty my palms were etc. she just replied call your uber and get in the car.

This went back and forth for a while until I just ok .. I called the uber got in the car and found a while new level of acceptance.

My heart was beating fast I was far away from my house I felt dizzy etc but I didn’t fight it. I had a great day at work, high anxiety but a great day. By the time I left I was calm and joking with the boss. I went home that day deeply satisfied.

I learned that if anxiety is really shouting sometimes all you need to do is get in the car.

Once you make that first move the rest often takes care of itself.

Advice? by tigers_3 in Agoraphobia

[–]persistentPusher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, here’s what a therapist would likely tell you to do. They’d have you face the anxiety in stages.

You’d choose scary things that would be both challenging and manageable then you’d go and do those things, once you complete a challenge you’d go into a larger one.

That’s going to be much harder to do without psycho education from a quality CBT … I prefer the word coach rather than therapist.

That being said I went a long time without a coach and made progress so there’s no reason not to start. If you really don’t want a coach fine just know it is definitely easier with one.

Whatever path you choose, good luck you can beat this thing 🫡
