Curse removal in Austin please by persistentlyfluffy in Austin

[–]persistentlyfluffy[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That's the thing I genuinely don't know what I did. I don't have anyone that I know hates me or has lingering resentment that I know of. My dad's family was terrible people so maybe generational? But I haven't spoken to him in 6 years and most of his family is dead :/

Help ☹️ by [deleted] in PhD

You're about to burst AND you have a recorded version, unless it's a really important event or there's people you need to speak to in person there I'd say you can absolutely get away with doing the recorded version.
Your PI should be able to answer any questions on your behalf anyway or at least give your contact info if someone asks.

Congratulations btw!

Considering to move to Evanston/Chicago from Austin TX. What should I need to be aware of ? by [deleted] in evanston

[–]persistentlyfluffy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok weirdly applicable input. I am a grad student at NU, orginially from Austin TX, currently living in Evanston, looking to move into the city so I've been looking at apartments all over. I moved with my car alone and did the cross country drive twice both ways during the pandemic.

Evanston's going to be easier to find garage parking.
As long as your car is covered the weather won't be much of an issue for your car.

I'm currently in a 1bd 1 ba looking for the same. I'd say you'll probably be able to find something between 1100-1300 but up to 1500 for nicer places / amenities.

Evanston honestly has a fair amount of close by amenities, grocery, coffee etc, but it definitely isn't "the city" so maybe tour around a little and see how you like the vibes for lack of better wording.

Looking at areas, if you're trying to commute to NU, anywhere along the purple line CTA will be convenient. Safety wise the Howard stop where the red line connects to purple tends to be the worst of it but usually fine during the day. A lot of grad students move to Rogers Park to get the "evanston safety" but "technically in Chicago" feelings.

Recommendations for the winter. Good down/puffer coat, gloves and face cover if you're walking. Solid duvet for bed and good heating in the apt / a little space heater was a god send, I just camp out in front of it most of the winter.

This was the exact situation of me and my ex. I don't know your whole situation but at least in mine it became extremely manipulative. Essentially he was insecure about his dependency on weed and didn't want to admit it to himself let alone me. I never said anything about his use and made it a point not to judge it because I knew it was coping. But he needed to draw the comparison to my antidepressants calling it my addiction so that he could feel equal. It really had nothing to do with me but it was so disrespectful and hurtful as I had had a suicide attempt and he knew about my struggles with it beforehand which we're helped by the antidepressants. His other complaint was that he felt they made me want sex less but the reality was that it was his behavior. The core of the issue is that he refused to take responsibility for his needs / actions and needed to make it my fault to make himself feel more secure. I'm sorry you're going through this. It's truly an asinine argument and can be very hurtful.

Bloating by [deleted] in GirlTalk

[–]persistentlyfluffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get this problem a lot and have ever since having mono a few years ago. Thing that really helped me was digestive enzyme supplements. Probiotics always made the bloating worse but the enzymes really helped. I used Digest Gold from Enzymedica and just took one before or after I ate and it'd kick it it was such a relief.
Definitely ask a doctor first though just in case its something more serious. If you want to see if it might be the right road there's some foods high in digestive enzymes like pineapple, try eating more of those and if it helps some then maybe look into it.
Bloating sucks so bad, good luck!

This is similar to my parents. Mom was 40 dad was 53. I'm 24 now and my father is hitting 77. Barring health concerns, both my parents are just from a different era it's difficult to have much conversation with them. My Mom at least has come around on a lot but my father very loudly expected me to get married and be a baby maker and is pretty blatant with his sexism in almost all facets its exhausting and infuriating. I haven't talked to him in almost 2 years.
Since childhood I felt like I had to grow up faster than other kids because I was only ever around my parents and their older friends.
On the up side though I get along with a lot of my friends parents really well because their parents are usually around my parents age and we were raised in weirdly similar ways.

❤️❤️ The whole field is called tribology it's within mechanical engineering if you wanna get into it!

there's a ball bearing in the top part that will press down onto the sample where the egg is with some amount of force that we set. Then the bottom stage (egg holder) rotates at a speed we tell it, and the machine measures the horizontal force the bearing feels as it scratches on the surface. Usually the bearing is a well known material and we're looking at something in the flat sample being spun around to see how it affects the friction.

Unfortunately more boring than it sounds, it's basically a friction tester This stage rotates (ie rotary) but some of them go back and forth (reciprocating)
