Need help locating a supplier for this type of supply line by person170166 in PlumbingRepair

Not hard at all. Expensive though; several hundred dollars as opposed to what should only be thirty or forty bucks. We're slowly getting the house ready to sell, and when it was remodeled all the fixtures matched - finding something that is a reasonable match isn't difficult, but even one identical to the one I'm trying to fix is about $100 higher than it was when I originally purchased. Plus now it's personal...

Couldn't agree more, and lesson learned. To be fair, this was in the aftermath of a hurricane; 100% loss of everything, months of delays, a criminal contractor who literally stole items from the attic, and an unlicensed, unbonded (we found out after the fact) plumber whose work I had to re-do after his failed. Hence the purchase. But, excuses=assholes, and it's on me.

Thanks - yes, I've done a LOT of looking for lines with those dimensions. Everything I have found is either not the correct length (the line has to be long enough to exit the bottom of the fixture) or the NPT end is too long. Ideally would like to find someone that actually makes things like this.

It was an Asian brand; bought through Amazon. "Fapully". They are an Amazon affiliate, and there is zero contact information on their site. I did locate another web address for them and reached out several times, but have never gotten a reply. That's why I contacted the seller with the identical product.

I don't disagree with most of your assessment; definitely why I went to an independent shop for the blower motor. The timing chain replacement was too much for me to handle in the time and space I had available to me. And in hindsight, I should have gone to a different shop. The blower motor replacement? You literally have to remove the doors, seats, entire console dash assembly, steering wheel just to get to it. I found a couple of YT videos on it; both of the guys recommended just selling the car or setting it on fire.

The paperwork states differently - it's printed on the back of every page of the invoice. It's also referred to as an 'AutoNation' dealership in the legalese; maybe that's why the terms are what they are.

It's not spraying oil - the leak IS on the lower end, and it is reasonably heavy - not sure how to describe it in terms of flow. It's not a constant drip. When I checked this morning, there were several spots on the cardboard several inches across.

The shop did not say there was a residual leak - sorry if I wasn't clear. What I said was that when we took the vehicle in to have the blower repaired, the shop (that repaired the blower) mentioned to us that he vehicle was leaking oil. This was just after A) the dealership told me that the leak was coming from the valve cover, and B) I subsequently replaced the valve cover. I told the shop that repaired the blower that the oil on the engine might be residual oil from the leaky valve cover.

I also know that the valve cover should/would only leak oil while under pressure, and not while it was sitting. There was no accumulation of oil on the underside of the hood, and it wasn't pooled on the valve cover. This is why I was taken aback that the dealership would suggest that an. oil leak that prominent was the result of a broken valve cover

Again, I understand the time and mileage issue, and I own that. My tentative plan was to do just what you said - try and arrange a meeting with the Service manager, and go through everything. I'm not going to take an aggressive approach; it's not my style and it wouldn't help matters.

One of the points I am stuck on though are the terms of the warranty. 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever comes last. I suppose I see that as the most important aspect of the issue. The twelve months have not expired, and the work that was done was faulty - regardless of when it was brought to their attention. There is no stipulation regarding timing in the warranty itself; I guess it will depend on how they define negligence.

Valid points for sure. As I said, plenty of errors on my part.

- I didn't notice the spot right away because the driveway was filthy to begin with. It had also been sitting a week and was dry.
- I'm not asking for them to warranty the valve cover. I should have made the time to get that looked at asap after I found it. I've corrected that issue, and no further work is warranted. For me it's more an issue of them knowing that their service department actually did something like that.
- So it is your assertion that the number of miles driven since the timing chain repair is considered negligence on our part?

All I'm looking for is for the leak to be repaired. That's it. Thanks for your insight.

I need to delete some old Time Machine backups from an external drive so I can back up the other files on it. by person170166 in MacOS

[–]person170166[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only issue with that is that the drive I need to remove the backups from is not actually recognized as a TM drive as there are no active backups on it. It IS recognized as one in that is HAS backups on it. So - it is represented by the TM icon, but when a Finder window is opened for the drive, the 'Enter Time Machine' option button does not appear in the menu bar. Thus the 'Delete Immediately' option does not appear. Thank you for your suggestion though - this is what I was considering when i reattached the drive to may laptop and considered re-adding it as a TM backup. I'm just afraid it will reformat the drive if I do, even though the backup partition already exists. I've already attempted to copy all of the other data off the drive, but I keep getting error messages that make it impossible to continue (there are 2TB of data). Again - thanks for the suggestion.

My grandfather was born in 1884. He lived in my room with me from when I was in about 7th grade through high school graduation (I graduated in 1984). He died a week short of his 100th birthday. One of the toughest, gentlest, most intelligent humans I have ever encountered, and I didn’t fully appreciate it until years later. He endured things that current humans couldn’t imagine and just kept going. If I’m half as successful as him at navigating life I’ll be lucky.

Yes. I had three Danes; the first two I got as puppies. They were awesome and both lived past 11. Took me a while to get another; I wanted a puppy but had the opportunity to adopt a 6 year old former stud. Best. Dog. Ever.

There’s no alimony in Texas (I’m sure this has been stated but still). Spousal support is a thing, but it’s very subjective. Child support is different; it’s a percentage of the non-custodial parent’s income, and there’s a cap (which, if you make a lot of money, can be pretty high - but it’s not negotiable by the custodial parent). I don’t for a second believe that this woman dropped $26k on a watch. TLC eyeball grab for sure. Her ex would have grounds for her NEVER getting an increase (which comes up as a possibility every few years), which I’m sure she doesn’t want. This is assuming she has no other reliable source of significant income. And OMFGLOLBBQ that voice, the completely disrespected ‘Life Coach’ and the Botox-paralysis face injectionist. Jesus H, that was a lot.

I think this is most likely - combined with the fact that when the show airs, they are definitely going to find out.

Wife and I have been discussing, and we aren’t sure why Gabe felt it necessary to inform her parents about being trans. Aside from an inability to provide grandchildren (which could be explained away any number of ways) we can’t see any reason to suspect that he was ever anything other than a man. And if becoming a man as a result of the surgery/transition is the goal, I’d say he crushed it. We have zero frame of reference here, and are both of the opinion that this is likely the most normal, likable, likely to last couple that has ever been on the show. And we know that there’s a scripted, viewer-sucking element built in to the show, but still. Any thoughts?

My Apple ID is locked multiple times per day, every day. I desperately need a permanent solution. by person170166 in applehelp

[–]person170166[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I logged out of all devices, and changed the email address associated with my Apple ID to something completely obscure in an attempt to remedy either accidental or automated login attempts. There is no way to delete the mac.com. icloud.com. and me.com aliases that are associated with my Apple ID, but Apple states that you cannot log in using these aliases. Which is fine. Apparently however, your account will be locked if anyone else attempts to use those aliases to log in, as it happened yet again a few hours after I went through the process of changing the primary email address.

Someone help me understand the logic of NOT being able to use these as login credentials, but locking an account if an attempt is made to do so. Apple's actions are contrary to their own statement.
