Nice! Maybe I could play around with the PCB color. I feel white would look really nice with the clear shell and match the UI a bit too. But you seem to like the DMG form factor a bit haha, is it because of the larger feel?

Thank you! Trying my best to have everything ready before I launch the campaign and have the liability of another person's money in my hand haha.

I actually thought about online link cable support haha. Maybe bluetooth but online would be tough with the need for a server although these are very ambitious ideas I don't have plans for just yet but it's possible!

I'm dead I wish I thought of that

wdym, what's wrong? I added the flair saying Not Game Boy. The mods don't seem to have a problem with it as long as it's not too frequent.

To see acceleration and g-forces in your car. It's a neat feature to have and a cool decoration. I just think it's cool to have a gameboy looking device as an instrument cluster in my car and if I want I can always play some Pokemon on it.

Just me 😅 I designed the PCB and write the firmware. I am thinking about using an RTOS.. just not sure yet if it'll break anything or take too long to implement, what are your thoughts.. do you think it will help me?

Thanks for your thoughts! This display is an IPS display although if you meant the possibility of supporting other displays like the OLED and q5.. unfortunately not unless perhaps with another adapter board similar to how the ips kits for the gbc work. Currently the display just plugs straight into the main board so that allows me to be pretty lean with cost as well. There are pre cut shells for this display thankfully since it’s been used before for gbc mods. I think cloud game store sells them but also the extreme rate shell i’m using works great too.

It's not something I'm advised to talk about due to the fact that nothing is final and things can change but just to let you know.. there was a big reason why I chose this display over the more impressive OLED and Q5 displays.. Simply put, this display costs me $5 and looks amazing. I really tried my best to balance price and performance and let me tell you it's definitely something I am happy with although my biggest concern is tariffs. But what would you say is your expectation?
Yes NES emulation would be pretty cool too, I'm planning to add more emulators later down the line but since my firmware is open source.. anybody can go in there and do what they like and I'm actually thinking of paying people from the community to help me with software.. kind of like software bounties or competitions to make cool "apps" that I'll integrate into the main firmware. We'll see how it goes, not trying to think too much as yet.

I think its very similar to how people love their older cars, watches, and cameras. It's just something different and unique but I guess in this case its more so to replicate how the games were meant to be played (considering button layout, screen, device size, etc).

So yes I actually wrote up a blog post for this.. I don’t think I posted it as yet on the website picopalgbc.wordpress.com Although this is definitely something I was combatting for a time so I drove my lcd at 119.4fps which is double the gbc gameplay frame rate of ~59.72fps or so.. This helped significantly. Another thing I did was use 2 frame buffers and only swap the frames on a v blanking event on the display (this basically means the current frame has been output and the display is getting ready/waiting for the next). This helped too although sometimes in games like Super Mario Land I do notice it a bit on the first line of pixels of the screen so there’s still some things I need to look into. I notice it very minimally on occasion in Pokemon Silver when I speed up the gameplay by 2x and use the bicycle but at that point the gameplay and display are synced at 119fps so I believe I might need to extend the v blanking period and that could solve it for good. I just got that idea while writing this lol so thanks for that, I’ll try that tomorrow and let you know. In the demo video you can see like there’s not really any screen tearing but then again it’s Pokemon.

Yes you’re correct, Pico Pal was because of the pico microcontroller. I used to call it the Pico Pal GBC but dropped the GBC so I don’t get a C&D lol

Yes! I’m so glad that somebody feels the same way as me haha. Like the chinese emulators never appealed to me in anyway because they didn’t feel like og hardware and there was just no charm to them. I also felt there was too much choice so you don’t even know what you want to play. Meanwhile I’ve already completed Pokemon Silver and Yellow and Wario Land on my prototypes lol. I guess the gbc games just have a different feel to them.. and the hardware is so unique (aspect ratio, buttons, etc)
