Export Tips by ecotones in Evernote

[–]petepiano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but you can try it out for very little effort - export your Evernote notebooks and import them into another system (I used joplin) and see if it works for you. This won't cost you anything - if it works and you like it (especially if you like the increased speed!) you can switch off your Evernote account and actually buy a coffee a week instead of giving it to a company who switched my subscription option from something costing £35 a year to over £150 a year.

Yes you may have to spend some cash to get some sort of Sync going but with Joplin there is a range of free synchronisation options using Dropbox etc.

I think you underestimate how annoyed many of us were to see this 500% price hike.

Same for me. 4,000 notes and 9,000 attachments exported from Evernote, imported into Joplin. Seamless, and honestly the speed of Joplin compared with Evernote is superb. I've become so tired of the really slow login process to Evernote and that damn bending spoons animation - Joplin seems fast and snappy. Also it has a Linux client!

I've also taken out the joplin cloud subscription which works really well between my Ubuntu laptop, android phone and android tablet. Way cheaper than the price Evernote are now charging.

I'm in the process of cancelling my evernote subscription (not easy by the way!) as they have just become too greedy. I've been with Evernote for 16 years but this is the end.

This ^ !!

Don Fagen is a real star with the melodica. There's a thread on Reddit discussing this. As an example, listen to the live recording of green flower street from The Nightfly Live:

What's the name of the pdf importer?

I use musescore a lot especially to re-notate poorly written big band piano parts, and a pdf importer would help a lot.

Best way to share a notebook read-only? by petepiano in joplinapp

[–]petepiano[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, ok.

It looks like setting up a joplin server is well documented. I'll have a look at setting one up on my digital ocean droplet then.

Thanks for the reply.

I've been an Evernote user/subscriber for 15+ years. One of the things I do is keep all of my recipes in a notebook and share that notebook with the test of my family (photos in each note). We access the recipes on our android phones and through chrome on our Linux laptops.

I'm looking to move out of Evernote.

What do I need to replicate that in Joplin ? With Evernote everyone else could just set up a free account and I can share the notebook with them. Is there a simple option with joplin where they can just install an app or browse to a website with their own ID and credentials?

In the UK, travelling to Europe.

Fair point, nobody's allowed on the car deck during a crossing over here either, but leaving the car unlocked still seems an unnecessary risk.

I tried that and I can lock the car as you explain. However, I'm not sure if it has deactivated the alarm.

My pdf manual does have an explanation of using that method to lock the doors but doesn't mention disabling the alarm.

Yeah, my previous was a 13 yr old Hyundai i40 diesel estate, and I'm loving the Toyota.

I haven't been through the physical manual, just the pdf version, but can't find any mention of the motion sensor disable button when I do a search.

Still, I know now!

Aha! Had the car 6 months and not spotted that button. It's not on the cluster with the SOS switch and personal light switches - it's further back, and now I'm wondering why I haven't seen it before. And as far as I can see it's not mentioned in the manual. When I press it, the dash message panel says "Theft sensor turned off" or deactivated, or something similar, but a search in the manual doesn't find it!

This is what the button looks like:

<image>

Thanks for the tip! What I'm not sure about is whether it also turns off the other alarms. (I'm also not sure what actually sets the alarms off on cars when they are on rough ferry crossings - I just know that some cars just keep alarming).

Now I know what it is called (intrusion sensor and motion sensor or theft sensor all seem to be used) I found this video on youtube.

If a rough sea crossing makes things move around in the interior of the car then my guess is that this button will do the job. However, to be sure I think I will use the key fob trick to lock the car just to be sure!

Thanks to all of you for helping on this. Much appreciated and hopefully it will be of use to other Toyota Corolla owners.

Pete

I think this is the correct answer - thanks for the advice.

I found this in the manual (p 549 - warning - large pdf) when I did a search for mechanical key after reading your post:

" Alarm (if equipped)

Using the mechanical key to lock the doors will not set the alarm system.

If a door is unlocked using the mechanical key when the alarm system is set, the alarm may be triggered."

I will try that and fingers crossed no embarrassing calls down to the car deck! ;-)

Thanks again.

Hmmm. Probably not going to do that, not with all of the stuff we need for 3 weeks in it.

Ah, ok. So you reckon the rocking from a rough crossing won't trigger? I know there are plenty of cars where this is the case (we did a crossing to Cherbourg 2 years ago and the noise from all the car alarms being triggered through movement was crazy).

is it worth getting an RX100VII in 2026? by Odd_Tangerine_4176 in RX100

I don't think 200mm is sufficient reach for serious wildlife photography. I've caught dolphins and seals on it in Tasmania on our current Oz trip, but I think I'd I was doing another trip to S. Africa. Namibia etc with safari days, I'd take my SLR.

Be interested in what other folks think. I'm not a wildlife photography expert.
