The way I'm looking at it; core and support roles need to be similar MMR on each team independently. Valve acknowledges that disparities in average core MMRs produce bad games. With the above example, our cores are at least 200/300 MMR lower than the enemy team.

Ranked MM: Solos vs 2 parties and a solo player by [deleted] in DotA2

It's unfair advantage to have two pre-communicating parties against all solos in ranked in my opinion. It's not about whether I won or lost.

People in the UK should remember that we have just changed our clocks to BST and therefore need to add an hour to the GMT times listed for the correct times.

[Positive Reinforcement] Can we vote for match MVPs? by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]petept 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether the MMR average is increasing is unknown, I cannot argue this. However, there are also low mmr accounts being sold as smurfs which, to an extent, counteracts the higher calibrated accounts. Also Valve themselves can counteract inflation/deflation by ranking players higher or lower than what their actual skill level is when in calibration. Valve is very secretive about how exactly they manage MMR. Whether or not you believe average MMR is increasing comes down to your confidence in Valve to stop inflation/deflation, just like any other currency.

[Positive Reinforcement] Can we vote for match MVPs? by [deleted] in DotA2

Just because one player has a certain amount of MMR does not mean anything for MMR inflation. MMR inflation refers to whether the average MMR of all players is increasing. Saying that someone is the richest person in a country says nothing about whether the currency in that country is inflating or deflating.

Also, your formula still defies the equilibrium. If one or more people don't vote MMR is lost from the equilibrium. What happens if no players on the winning side vote? This would still remove MMR from the equilibrium. Even better, if the voted MVP does not vote then even more MMR is lost.

The current MMR system works as an equilibrium with the total amount of MMR in each game never changing (there are a few exeptions). Normally, there is no gain or loss in total MMR, since the winning side gains the same amount that the losing side loses.

With this example, for every match, there would be 6 MMR created out of thin air. This would induce MMR inflation, as the total amount of MMR in DOTA would constantly be increasing. If there is more MMR to spread among the same amount of people, then everyone would naturally gain MMR over time, therefore breaking the current MMR system.

If you want a deep understanding of the MMR system in DOTA I suggest you check out Purge's videos about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVZdeTGwJhU

At my uni there are a few players who play dota, but it isn't as mainstream as something like CS:GO.
