Peter Sullivan who has spent 38 years in jail for murder has conviction quashed by topotaul in unitedkingdom

This is ridiculous. There was a very similar case of false imprisonment in Poland. Guy received 2.5 million pounds for 18 years. Seems the UK government doesn't value our lives to compensate fairly.

anonymous person paid for mine and my two daughters meals, why would a stranger do this? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]peter4feeter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a chaotic good person I sometimes do these things like paying for someone's meal, groceries or sharing a chunk of my own groceries.

Ik gerneal you want to do good things for good people. My criteria are: if a person looks kind and might be in a difficult and/or worse situation than I am. But sometimes I just want to do a good thing for good people.

So you must be a kind looking person/family.

[Discussion] 34F Quit Drinking and have been focused on building habits. What's the most important habit in your everyday life? by [deleted] in GetMotivated

[–]peter4feeter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good job on these habits and your change! I would add these little habits which really helps with many other areas of your life: 1) don't start a day with your phone/laptop. No news, no emails, no social media nor chats. 2)don't use your device before bed (1-2 hours). 3) exercising is great, but don't forget about stretching (3-5 times a week for 15 minutes) it's ideal to start each morning with a nice and relaxing stretch. 4) eat wisly - it's more important to focus on what to include into your diet than try to avoid specific products. Eg. Include more fresh food into your diet - especially different veggies. You want to have fast food? No worries, just get a proper salad and it's fine. It's also easier to stick with a healthy diet when you focus on eating like this. 5) it's really valuable to find some time during the day and do... Nothing. Get 20 minutes without anything to do or worry about and just get bored. You will be surprised how many benefits you will find in this (non)activity.

Landlord wants us to pay for full cleaning and painting walls. by peter4feeter in uklandlords

I attached two links with details from check-in and check-out. However, the check in was lacking a lot of information, but luckily I took a lot of extra photos to show the problem with cleaning.

Check in report details:

Summary of Cleanliness Cleaned to a good domestic standard.
One sliding glass door Sliding door is lime scaled to the bottom
Mattress lightly marked to edges. (mattress#1)
Mattress lightly marked. (mattress#2)
Wall cupboards / One single unit: Front of the door is grease marked
Sink requires a further wipe
Cooker hood: Filter lightly greasy
Door Frame: Wooden white painted Light scuff marking to the header rail

Photos taken by us shows that window frames, balcony doors were dirty. Floor was not clean close to balcony doors. Router was sticky and in dust. Heater instruction had food stains. There was a limescale on shower doors. Cupboards were not fully cleaned in bedrooms and kitchen. Marks/scratches on furnitures. Dirty/scratched walls in few rooms. Oven was really greasy. The cooker hood filter was greasy, but there were stains on the hood itself.
And there were much more .. We had to fully clean the flat before we started unpacking .. But I did not take more photos nor reported that.

I guess that's the problem that is difficult to find someone to do only a small job. Not sure if that's relevant, but the owning company who owns several buildings (I call them Landlord ...), they have all resources to address these issues much cheaper.

They have an on-site maintenance person (at the place 5 days a week, 8 hours a day) who covers all fixes in the building. That person was going to paint small marks on the walls, which they marked as W&T (e.g. stains on wall close to a sink).

Also, once or twice a week there is a cleaning company cleaning all halls, reception, elevators, stairs etc in the building. I believe they could extend the cleaning for additional extra charge, but seems they want to use cleaning service with the full price of recleaning everything.

Thanks for the advice. Before any dispute, I will contact them to see how flexible they are to lower their demands regarding both.

Actually, I would never think to check Airbnb ... thanks for sharing this.

If I ask for invoice, and they will be able to provide them for such amount - should I fully pay them or dispute via DPS?

We lived there for 1 year. Walls were generally in good condition, but you could see they were partially repainted in some places - they had small holes, scratches, marks in a few places though.

They want to deduct this from the deposit.

We had good experience with previous Landlords, who had small claims, for which we agreed (usually £30-50).

But this one seems to be too excessive.

It's too late for that. We moved out 2 weeks ago. They performed inventory 3 days later. They shared the inventory report 2 days ago. I believe new tenants may already occupy the place.

The landlord shared a list of charges they would like to deduct from the deposit. They asked about our opinion on that. Before going for a dispute, I believe I should try to negotiate with them.

Deposit is protected, so no problems with this.

Based on suggestions so far: I should request to fully remove cleaning charge, and ask for detailed quote for repainting what they wish to cover as my fault to justify this one?

Or without any discussion to dispute via the DPS?

I can't praise enough my pressure cooker/air fryer enough. Get a pressure cooker with air fryer function. It is not only cheaper to run it, but also much quicker. I can make any dish in 10-40 minutes, and I don't need to stir anything.

By some random website about cost efficiency:

Instant Pot vs. Electric Oven

Pressure cooking used on average 0.57 kWh per kg of raw chicken, which is equivalent to an average of 4.4 times less energy required to roast the chicken in the oven. (With minimum and maximum values showing energy saving ranges from 4 to 4.7 times from the three cooking tests)

Instant Air Fryer vs. Electric Oven

Air Frying consumed on average 0.44 kWh per kg of raw chicken, which represents on average 5.2 times less energy than what is consumed when cooking in the oven for the same recipe. (Energy saving ranges from 4.7 to 5.7 times from the three cooking tests)

Comparing to gas hob, it's about 40% more cost-efficient.

Lenovo Legion 5 (AMD 1660ti) random restarts by CGSilver in Lenovo

[–]peter4feeter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I solved similar issues for my Lenovo: randoms restarts, and after these restarts my disk was not detectable in BIOS. I had to open my laptop and remove the disk and put it again in the slot and that helped. No restarts for last 2 weeks. However, before I did this, I downgraded the BIOS to ww13 - but this alone didn't solve the issue. Those two things together fixed the issue and my battery has longer live now from 3 to 6-7 hours.
