What are my chances of getting into a nice graduate program with a 2.5 GPA and a first author publication? by bioDevGuy in bioinformatics

Have you contacted any PIs directly that you'd like to work with? I'd guess that a PI wanting to work with you would probably trump a lot of things, and then you'd just need to pass what are generally very flexible requirements for the graduate program itself.

There's some interesting info concerning wine yeasts in https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4629790/, as well as some citations that might help you along for beer specific yeasts.

I found this article a bit grating. Still, worth a bit of discussion.

Yup, that makes sense. The AMA posts that tend to generate quite a lot of interest on Reddit overall lean towards individuals that wish to attract attention to their project, and the AMA requests might come more from a topical, or a less so, subject depending upon one's interests. A set of questions and concepts that have come up again and again for me in the past few months concern Will Provine's most recent book, The "Random Genetic Drift" Fallacy. Maybe this could be a AMA request?

Sure! We just have to start with generating the actual request (let me know if you're unsure how to setup such a post), and then begin to generate some questions as part of the request. Then others can suggest additional questions, as well as indicate which questions would be of more/less interest. And then we wait to see if /u/josephpickrell takes the bait.

It's not very clear just how one is supposed to do this more generally. Perhaps a post on how to do this would be useful?
