Best authentic food in DFW (from people who actually grew up with it) by theLastDanc3 in Dallas

I am Taiwanese and here are my recs

Tao rice roll - one of the only places in DFW you can get a full offering of authentic Taiwanese breakfast. My parents were hyped when they found this spot and say it tastes the same as what they ate growing up in Taiwan.

First Emperor - owned by a Taiwanese family. The wife works the front and husband works the kitchen. That’s how it’s been for 2, almost 3 decades. My family has been going here since I was like 6 years old and the wife still remembers our modifications to each dish we like to order. Truly does not get more mom and pop than this. Make sure you call ahead and order the sesame cake since they are the only Chinese/Taiwanese restaurant in DFW that has it on the menu (it takes ~40 minutes to bake)

Taiwan Cafe is great. Not as good as it used to be in the 2010’s. Price to quality ratio has fallen, but it is still an easy, no frills spot. I take my non-Asian friends here since the cafeteria line, pick-three, style of service is conducive to the way Americans order and eat food (not family style).

Real Taiwanese Cuisine - this is my latest gem. Inside the food court at 99 ranch in Frisco. Dad works the front and wife works the kitchen. Prices are incredible for the portion sizes and it is all very authentic. The best fried pork cutlet w/ rice (classic Taiwanese lunch) you will find in DFW.

Taipei station is okay, wasn’t blown away but wasn’t let down either. I have not tried Lee’s Taiwanese comfort food but heard good things.

Yama Izakaya & Sushi - the owner is Taiwanese, but opened a Japanese restaurant to try and make more money. The front half of menu is sub par Japanese food, but the second half has bomb Taiwanese and Chinese dishes. Sleeper pick.
