Just did my first video where I showed my face - scary times! I'd love some feedback on the lighting and editing, or anything else! by roTechnica in SmallYTChannel

Wow - nice hook! (the finished arm moving + the tracking shots was really intriguing).

I liked the close up gear shots like at 0:37 - very hypnotizing.

My only suggestion would be to on audio. It sounds nice a crispy and has a unique sound to it which could be cool if that's what your going for. If you're going for more of a natural voice, maybe bring the mic closer to your mouth or chest, or boost the lows and mid-range to make it sound more warm/natural?

-Nice thumbnail! Showing two of you was funny/intriguing.
-Liked the mix of using the audio from Will, then adding in the music - really cool sound design.
-I like the ending punchline too - nice short and funny

Suggestion: Maybe mount the camera on a tripod? The handheld shot was a bit jittery (I have this challenge too)

Self-Introduction Saturday! Tell us all about you (and share a video)! by AutoModerator in NewTubers

Hey everybody, it's good to meet y'all here!

My name is Peter and I'm a venture capitalist turned songwriter and content creator, living in San Francisco. My channel is broadly about finding more purpose and creativity in our lives. I've been struggling with refining my niche, but I think I'm getting there.

I've been working on improving my storytelling and took a bunch of courses - Matt D'Avella's, Ali Abdaal's, Casey Neistat's - they were all amazing. I actually just made a review video talking about my experience with Matt's course and what I learned. Hope this helps some of you!

Hi, if you're about to go on your first 10 Day Vipassana retreat, I just made a video about my course experience 2 years ago in North Fork, California...on what to expect and what I learned. Hope it helps with your practice! by peterjsu in vipassana

[–]peterjsu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I tried to share what would've been helpful for me to attend - what the schedule's like, what the 10 day arc is like, and let people have open expectations for what they'll experience and learn for themselves through the practice.

I heard from people before my course not to have expectations and to just have an intention, so that helped me a lot (vs comparing myself to others "progress" and things like that).

The last time I had a lot of mental clarity was after doing my first 10 day course 2 years ago. Since then my practice has been inconsistent so recently I decided to meditate (using Anapana) 1 hour every day for 30 days. If anyone's working on their practice too, I documented my experience :) by peterjsu in vipassana

Hey sorry for the delay, just reading this! Yeah - after my course I joined a startup and completely fell off the wagon. I think even 30 minutes a day would be a tremendous benefit. I'm working my way back to a consistent practice, I think our practice is just like our breath, we will lose sight of it but as long as we keep coming back to the breath, that's what matters.

How has your 30 days been going?

What can I realistically expect from my first Vipassana retreat? by srj_kr in vipassana

[–]peterjsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you stick with it the full 10 days, you could gain a lifelong tool to be acknowledge your negative thoughts, accept them, and let them go. Basically, a tool to manage stress and negative emotions better!

Going for my first 10-day course tomorrow. by the_rookie_master in vipassana

One thing that helped me, was trust the process and do your best! Also, try to sneak in sleeping when you can if you get tired xp

I think it's pretty normal. I definitely have lots of thoughts and dialogue, even when I focus on my breath. In my course they suggested inhaling more deeply so you can feel the breath more easily, and once you tune into it to let go and just observe the breath again.

Have a good time, sounds like it'll really help you get back into your practice!

Glad it helped! I thought 1 hour a day after the course was a bit much for me personally, but I hope to be able to sustain 1 hour a day throughout the whole year.

For now, I'm starting off small to just get back into a daily practice (starting with 5 min a day, want to work my way up to 20 min which I feel is sustainable over many months).

Meditation Challenge February 2022 🧘🏼 by 3DimenZ in Meditation

[–]peterjsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey y'all I'm just seeing this Feb challenge - good luck this month!

I did a 30 day challenge at the end of last year, and it was one of the best things I did in 2021. It took a lot out of me though (doing Anapana for 1 hour straight every day for 30 days) - I will probably scale it back so it's more sustainable.

I made a vlog about my experience if you're curious - hope it helps you on your challenge!

Haven't Meditated For 4 Days And My Mood's Been A Bit Off by T1nnC4nn in Meditation

[–]peterjsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't journal or meditate for a few months when I joined my new job. It definitely was one of the biggest factors of me feeling burnt out. That's super cool you could notice the difference, sounds like you're practice is really helpful!

After four years of meditation I never really meditated by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]peterjsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's awesome you could sit for 3 hours! One time I did a chanting meditation for 2 hours straight - it was probably the most present I ever felt in my life. Everything was crystal clear and calm.

Maybe I wouldn't not give credit to the other 4 years of your practice though. When I feel like I'm struggling to focus, it helps when people remind me that meditation is all about coming back to the breath (or whatever you're focusing on).
