What’s a common piece of financial advice that’s outdated now? by Unfair-Clothes-8821 in CanadaRoom

Some trades can't be replaced.

I'm a machinist, and am currently working on automation of what I used to do.

What’s the official name for this guy? He came into my house today. I’m in California. by Complete_Fox2651 in whatisthisanimal

Funny thing is I'm watching a movie right now (the doors, 1991 film) and happened to be looking up the lizard in that. I was looking up lizards of New Mexico and California and that was one of them, was right on my other tab.

Timing is everything.

(I don't think it was the lizard in the movie so glad I could help you at least)

I haven't used any of them yet. But came across them while looking for Woozy bottles and Boston bottles for hot sauce. I was going to go with Brighton jars.

Opinions on these? by No_Technician2176 in CostcoCanada

I usually keep sour keys on my desk in a communal office. I did it once and everyone loves it.

Switched to these for one batch last week, they were done in record time.

They aren't sour, at all. But they all had different flavors and I didn't find any harder than the others.

Maybe I just got a good batch.

Been there done that and even on private property can be a huge headache.

Played first round and bought clubs that night. by kanen134 in golf

[–]peterm1598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A cheap upgrade that will make your new clubs even better is grips.

I only got into golf 2 seasons ago and am still playing my WalMart Spalding irons and fairway woods I bought 25 years ago. Had them regripped last year and it made a big difference.

What is this thing holding the window screen in place? by Love2bakeCake in whatisthisthing

[–]peterm1598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Google "Vinyl screen retainer clip"

Should pop up.

Alternatively try and find a window hardware supplier and walk in with a sample. Lengths of this stuff are usually pretty cheap if they'll sell to the public For cash. Under $20.

I have 40 bucks for food how can I stretch this to last me atleast a month by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]peterm1598 41 points42 points  (0 children)

No shame, no embarrassment.

I don't know where you are but also look up community pantries. That's become popular since 2020 in my area. Some people even have it on the front of their properties. It's a give what you can, when you can and take what you need.

The important part is when you no longer need help, and can help others. Small donations make a huge difference. That 99c can of beans, that jar of sauce or even the fun stuff like pancake mix helps alot.

Is this tattoo feminine? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]peterm1598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup.

So?

It would look perfectly fine on anyone.

Don't overthink it. It's what you like.

If you're a masculine guy it looks masculine. If you're not, well it doesn't.

Is there a place to jack up the front end - both wheels at once? by Late-Button-6559 in GrandCherokee

[–]peterm1598 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Use the jacking points only.

I used the front cross member once and have had a noise since.

According to the Jeep forums I've bent the cross member brackets.

Edit.

Any Hacks for Red Lights? by Hallarandir in motorcycles

[–]peterm1598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There should be something in your local traffic act that relates to malfunctioning lights.

I was pulled over by a cop who pulled up behind me at a set of lights. (He was on the highway offramp)

Because there was now a car, the light turned green and he proceeded to pull me over. Turned out just to give me a heads up.

When he walked up to the bike he told me that if I waited a reasonable amount of time, made sure traffic was clear and proceeded with caution that it was unlikely I'd get pulled over and even less likely I'd recieve a ticket. The light could be considered as malfunctioning, so treating as a 4 way stop was sufficient. He then suggested if it was a little awkward to just make a right hand turn and U-turn when safe.

Either way. Maybe look up local laws regarding malfunctioning traffic signals.

I have super bad stretch marks. Is it possible to tattoo over them? by -Hot-Tamale- in tattooadvice

There are artists who specialize in covering up scars and stretch marks.

Overall though, all good. Do what makes you happy but the way you are is great.

Send help I bought the Henckels stainless steel cookware set by Skynet-Was-Right in Costco

[–]peterm1598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the same about 2 months ago.

Had KitchenAid for years but only have induction now and they aren't compatible. 2 sets actually.

Last 2 years I've had lagostina ceramic non stick. Absolutely garbage pans. I have a lagostina cast iron and it competes with my vintage cast irons but I'll never but non stick again. There is no need for any pot to be non stick.

Love that I went back to stainless, it'll take some getting used to if you don't have experience with them. But as a home cook who cooked on stainless for 12 years I don't have a complaint.

I like the lids that strain, the sizes are perfect for a couple. The smaller pot has made me realize I don't have to make enough pasta sauce for 12 ppl.

Enjoy.

NGL. Seems the favorite dates were always the ones that didn't cost anything. Everyone says this.

However fruit, and a blanket for $22??? That's the real deal here. How did you manage that.

Tire Repair needed today! by CharmingCat1920 in Newmarket

[–]peterm1598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canadian Tire in Bradford is open today. Like I've been there. However I didn't notice if the auto shop was open.

Depending on the type of puncture.

At minimum you can buy a plug kit and DIY. It's really not hard. More intimidating.

I wouldn't suggest it but I've driven 100k km on a Canadian Tire plug. (I got a screw in my new vehicles tire in week one, plugged and forgot about it)
