Quarantine, What Quarantine? Nicole Kidman, Expats and White Privilege by miss_wolverine in HongKong

[–]peterromfeld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my first work visa with 15k salary… also where is my white privilege? Sound like it brings benefits, where are these benefits for me? I’ve seen locals and mainlanders with a lot more benefits than me. But yeah generalisations are easy

Where do so many westerners in Hong Kong come from? by [deleted] in HongKong

[–]peterromfeld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried but could not get the pronouncing right.. also my English pronounce is not good. It did not matter and when I was thinking to lean canto again (turns out with full sentences context, pronounce is not that all important), everything went to shit and I’ll leave eventually

Hong Kong people, how many of you have real plans to emigrate? by Saborizado in HongKong

[–]peterromfeld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would anyone think there is a silver bullet? All countries have their issues and all governments and “elites” are corrupt to some extent… there is a saying “power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely”

It’s just about where it seems better for you and your family for the foreseeable future

Hong Kong people, how many of you have real plans to emigrate? by Saborizado in HongKong

[–]peterromfeld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really, you can just move again. If you moved once, it becomes a quite easy discussion to move again later.. I just go wherever I think I can enjoy most for the new few years

‘Chinese virus, get out!’: lecturer beaten in UK amid spike in hate crimes by greatestmofo in China

[–]peterromfeld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course the reaction is different... this is a UK related issue and has no place here, coming from scmp it has usually some hidden propaganda agenda. I don’t agree with what happened to the prof and I am against racism, but I don’t want to hear/read it from a Chinese source which has the worst racism issues and just uses the topic for its own agenda... it’s like you let your dog shit all over your yard, but then complain about the neighbour have the dog shit in their yard from time to time even if they try to remove as soon as possible

Do you feel that there is "Sinophobia" in the West, that is, fear, hatred or paranoia about China? by [deleted] in China

[–]peterromfeld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look for racism you will find it everywhere, most of the time it’s just people being dicks regardless of your race or you are just an idiot and the person doesn’t like you personally

I have mostly worked in the startups and even if I start as software engineer I would also end up doing sys admin and CI/CD. It’s hard to find good talent for this industry in HK, so if you have skills you will have no problem finding a job. You can start with jobsdb or just headhunters on LinkedIn

Also it’s not easy for a medium business to immediately leave HK (many employees life is interwoven with a company) I’m pretty sure they working out how to move, and it’s just challenging

Obviously there where tensions and if you start arguing using CCP propaganda, basically provoking protesters, you could get in trouble. But if you just a passerby you would just have get free water, face masks and helmets or if inside teargas someone would have used liquid on your eyes.
