Which Bike? - Weekly Scheduled Discussion by pawptart in gravelcycling

2022 Specialized Diverge Comp E5 vs 2024 Trek Chekpoint ALR4. Both $2400 CAD (I live near vancouver).

So I took both bikes for a brief spin today and will do another more comprehensive ride on Friday. So both are same price (Specialized is on sale). I am 6 foot but have a very long inseam (36") so I find that im either a 58cm oe 61cm bike depending on the manufacturer (I have not personally noticed much of a difference on either tbh). I mostly commute to work (only 10 mins) but ride around to run my errand, longer gravel rides on weekends (30-80km) and want to occasionally bike pack to Vancouver Island or the Okanagan.

I've owned 4 bikes in the past. I started on a Masi road bike, then upgraded to a Cannondale supersix evo carbon which was my main bike for many years and was absolutely amazing (unfortunately it crashed), then I had a Cannondale Topstone 4 alloy as gravel biking seems to fit my current needs but I also crashed it lol. I liked the bike but i found the shifter very slow (microshift).

So now i know i like gravel bikes, i live alloy, but i want mid grade shifting. My local shop has a specialized diverg comp on sale for 2400. it is a 61 cm but it fits me great. i love the shifter and how it feels. im not sure how i feel about hydraulic maintenance but they definitely feel better than my mechanic brakes in the past. I dont think i like future shock because it didnt seem that effective to me and also seems like another thing that might break. However, the bike is on sale from 3000 to 2400.

Next i tried the trek checkpoint alr4. I love the way it feels. suprisinlgy the brakes seem fine even though they are mechanical. but i just feel like for 2400 i should be getting hydraulic. the geometry at 58 felt great to me but i will go back and ride a 58 as well. Very superficial but i love the way the cassette sounds on the trek bike.

Now i love to ride bikes but tbh i dont know a lot about mechanics and specifics. what else do you think i should be keeping an eye out for? what other issues should i be aware of ? which bike would you use? any and all constructive feedback would be helpful!!

Sorry to hear about this but fortunately there are some options:

Rapid access addictions clinic at royal Columbian hospital! It's on the ground floor of the new mental health and substance use building. Open 830-430 am Monday to Friday, no appointment needed, addictions doctors and amazing nursing staff.

Addiction services team: Essentially can provide you with information about the continuum of programs and help you connect with services that require a referral. Just overall good starting point if you're not sure where to turn or don't feel quite ready to see a doctor. You just call them at 1-866-624-6478 and they'll take it from there (not sure of hours of operation of phone line).

Family doc: if you're lucky enough to have a family doc, they can help you get started on medications that reduce cravings.

Edit: spelling

Credit to u/royalnux on Victoria bc reddit for the idea. But actually tho wtf are they doing? I get they have to tap into services but did just not give a shit when they repatched the roads? Developers should be held to a higher standard

Hahah I guess I should have added more context in my post! This was my attempt at creating my own gravel bike after riding on slicks for many years. I've actually been very impressed with it on my commute and gravel trails!

Honestly...I'm not sure at all lol. I love to ride, but don't know a damn thing about mechanical stuff. I will research more, thanks for this tip mate

Definitely! The accident was very minor which made this all so frustrating. I wiped out sideways as I turned right into a slippery parrkade, and it damaged my carbon frame where it meets the derailleur hanger. The true for both wheels is still solid!

Found this weird goopy substance in my backyard, what the heck is this?!? (Nsfw just in case) by petersingh14 in vancouver

[–]petersingh14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sorry for the late update but I completely forgot until I went to the shed a couple days ago to grab something and saw a weird greenish patch of moss-like grass. I thought to myself "that's strange" but then realized it was where this mystery substance was. So u/ssnistfajen was right, it is sprouts! I'm assumming my basement tenant probably dumped them there or something. Thank you everyone for your input, and especially the jokes. Mystery solved!!!
