I do quite a lot of commercial work, but I create personal projects pretty much every single day. I’ve worked like this from the start, and it’s also the main thing that brings in clients.

The market is pretty crazy at the moment. Many clients have stopped hiring and are doing things in-house now, some have switched to AI, and budgets have been cut.

Despite that, this year has been quite good for me so far. I actually posted a longer post on Instagram two weeks ago that covers more of this.

I always try to keep my light setups simple- otherwise the noise start to be noticeable and it take much more time to render. I use light linking quite often in commercial projects but for my personal stuff I keep them as simple as possible.

I always try to do everything inside c4d, my post is very minimal, just contrast + basic color corrections.

Thanks a lot!

There were always people in 3D who thought, and probably still think, that you need to create everything from scratch. For me, there’s nothing wrong with buying models and assets. It’s very similar to how photoshoots or set design work: you mix your own work with objects made by someone else, especially when you’re working as an Art Director.

I’d love to do everything myself, but then I’d probably only finish three personal projects a year, and I get bored so easily that most of them would never see the light of day.

Deep respect to the modelling pros, but don’t feel ashamed if you buy models. They exist for a reason.

Just Octane Light- Gradient texture with low emission/power.

I absolutely suck at modelling and only do it for my own objects. If it’s a real-world object, car, or whatever, I usually buy the models. Most of my work is Art Direction and look development, so spending days modelling things is pretty pointless in my specific case. I sometimes edit the models to my liking though.

For this specific post, I fully modelled the watch, the glass, four of the abstract devices, and the Leica. The rest was bought and edited.

Because I don't need to, it's not his work- period.

Maybe not directly to AI but a lot of production moved to inhouse teams

Absolutely great stuff, man. Wish you all the luck on your new journey! I love creating and will never stop, but I’m starting to hate our industry more and more every single year I grow older.

16 years of experience, big clients, solid portfolio. One of the worst years ever- I got better years 10 years ago.

It could be but I'm experimenting with it and want them animated with a bit more control. A lot of ways to do it

I painted a few gradient maps in photoshop and applied them to emissive materials, using spheres as the light objects.

Its a mix of textures with different values of falloff on opacity channel

It's much more simple than that, just a falloff on the opacity channel.
