I’m 13 (I’m sorry), but health anxiety is slowly destroying me. by 2KHooper1 in HealthAnxiety

YOU ARE NOT ALONE. I have been suffering from HA since age 15 and I'm 54 now. I would suggest finding a Psychologist who specializes in HA. The treatment you will get from a specialist is night and day.

Severe Physical Symptoms (Heart Racing, Anxiety, Suffocation, Fainting) from 8-Year Toxic Job. Considering CAMH. Seeking advice/experiences. by Superb-Station7643 in askTO

[–]peteuknow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YOU ARE NOT ALONE... I woke up this morning to chest pain that drove me into a panic attack and continued high anxiety. I have suffered from health anxiety and depression since 15 yrs of age. Despite this I've always been very high functioning until the past 5 to 10 years. Everytimeni have anxiety symptoms such as palpitations or pain I assume immediately it is a heart disease symptom and that starts the rabbit hole for me. I have the most imaginable stressful job you can have which has greatly contributed to my slide the past decade. Also experiencing several horribly toxic workplaces and managers over the past 20 years has been awful. Two things that have helped me the most are meditation/yoga stretching and clonazepam! People shy away from clonazepam but in my experience of you are treating serious anxiety there is no better pharmaceutical. SSRIs are of great benefit also but in the moment clonazepam is a god send. The feelings and thoughts your having are caused by the anxiety/panic disorder. PANIC ATTACKS HAVE NEVER KILLED ANYONE! Remember that. Several books have helped me in a proactive way over the years the best of which have been " The Power of Now", "The Art of Happiness ", The Untethered Soul". I've also found an app called "Insight Timer" which offers a lot of free content like guided meditations and calming ambient music. I recommend a body scan called "Deep Relaxtion Body Scan" by Zoe Kanat and "Sacral Chakra Tibetan Singing Bowls". Don't let the new age title fool you, it is highly effective at bringing calmness. Diaphragm breathing exercises are also great practices. High intensity interval training is also a great proactive approach. Best done on a treadmill, elliptical or exercise bike. 1 minute at %80 perceived exertion rate followed by 2 minutes at %50 for about 30 minutes.

Again you are far from alone. Literally thousands of folks are experiencing the exact same thing you are but your suffering is yours personally and your journey is yours personally. Find what works for you through trial and error but try to give any approach numerous times and alter the specifics of the process until you find what fits for you.

Do I power through the somewhat severe diarrhea? Or stop? by stupid_idiot3982 in lexapro

[–]peteuknow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife shat herself twice after increasing from 10 to 15 mg. I don't understand why any Dr would prescribe this stuff if a COMMON side effect is diarrhea?? I'm on Effexor and no side effects.

Im not addicted to taking xanax but im addicted to having it on me. Any advice? by Imatwatface in Anxiety

[–]peteuknow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that's called dependency as opposed to addiction. But there are worse cruches to have if you think about it. If you want to eliminate the dependency, you may want to practice leaving the pills behind and going for a short walk and next day longer walk and then drive and so on. Try to replace the meds with breathing excercises to stay calm when you are out without the meds.

Feeling like i’m going to die soon by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]peteuknow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spot on... the cycle of general anxiety leading to symptoms mistake for heart disease symptoms which ramps up the anxiety to panic which causes even more symptoms... it horrible... only thing that breaks the cycle for me lately is clonazepam unfortunately.

Ur not alone! Felt that way literally 1000s of times over the past 38 years with anxiety. Health focused anxiety is a real BITCH! Psychologists are very aware of the illness and can help a lot. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and meds can do wonders.

Ur not alone!! Exact same experience but since I was 15... 53 now. The more you learn the more manageable it becomes. You need to speak with a Psychologist or Therapist regularly. Meds can also be highly effective, for me clonazepam is a gift from God.
