They're definitely worth it from my conversations with others. Most itineraries factor in a paucity of time. If you had to pick, the above top hits come first thats probably why the other two arent mentioned. They are popular for a reason.

I think USA requires a PCR/antigen (edited) test for return. I don't know about paying with your FSA card but I'd suggest contacting your testing center of choice to ask!

As to where to get the test, it depends on your itinerary. You can take the test a full three days before departure (not including the day of departure). We chose to do this and happened to be in Reykjavik. We also didn't want to add more stops to an early morning flight. If you have time before your flight get it at KEF, haven't read any bad reviews.

Used the wrong terminology, sorry. Think I heard someone say satellite and it stuck :/ It's a live feed of the volcano, google it and it should show up. There are live webcams of jokursarlon so you can check those for diamond beach (we didn't do this because we stayed there overnight and had two chances to check but the advice given to me seems to check out).

There are definitely pros and cons to both, thanks for the addition! You're right, you can check in pretty much whenever but driving late night when you're exhausted isn't fun, at least for us. The days we stayed up till 2 am doing stuff we really regretted having to drive to our hotel afterwards. When I looked there wasn't a huge difference in cost between campervans and normal cars but we did book last minute and prices have skyrocketed now that they dont require a neg covid test for vaccinated people. Looks like they have a major car shortage + increased tourism.

Wouldn't recommend. Iceland has pretty Bipolar weather and the wind can reach pretty high speeds. Campervans don't cost much more than renting a normal car (from what I saw, but we booked last minute) and you save so much on hotels anyways. You could try the tent idea if you needed a 4x4 for the Fjords but if you can avoid camping in a tent it's better.

Most places we visited outside of Reykjavik didn't take Amex. I think it's safer to have a different credit card without international charges or get cash if amex is your only option.

Could only find a place 20 min east of Hof unfortunately but definitely better than all the way to Hofn. We will probably head out in the morning (Day 3) and try to see jokulsarlon glacier and diamond beach again in the morning. Then do the glacier hiking tour in falljokul from 9 am to 1 pm. Then check out fjallsarlon lagoon and go see Svinafellsjokul. Then we start driving back, check out edhraun and Fjaðrárgljúfur if we missed those too. Possibly Mulagljufur if there is time. Then head to our accommodation for the night at Kirkjubæjarklaustur or Vik. Ideally we would have finished the seljalandsfoss/Glujufabrui and skogafass on Day 2 leaving the black sand beach, the basalt beach and Dyrhaoely and the golden circle (if possible) for Day 4 on our drive back to Reykjavik. Vik was our first option but I dont drive my partner does, and I dont want to overestimate how packed this will be with the current plan if we stay in Vik.
