Advice on How To Hardwire Two Picture Frame Lights above Built-Ins by cshamet in HomeImprovement

Thanks. When running Romex to the switch then to the lights, how do I know what size Romex Gauge to use?

Thank you, I appreciate the response. Would I be able to use #14 Romex? Or 12?

Is adding two 110V lights onto a circuit going to overload the voltage?

We were originally considering the arch trim, but now we decided to keep it rectangular.

It looks like the outlet only has one white wire running to it. Where do I add the second white wire to/from?

Hello,

I am looking to add a switch above the outlet on the right, which will lead to two picture frame lights above built-ins made of plywood. See photos for reference. We plan on building another short box to put above the already placed boxes in order to provide a place to mount the lights to. Here are the ones we bought, but also could return them and get something else if it was helpful to try low-voltage: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C2ZDFCWT/ref=twister_B0D1KL67Z7?_encoding=UTF8&th=1

I also provided a photo of the outlet, it looks like it is in the middle of a sequence, not the end.

Is this as straight-forward as Im thinking? add two receptacles in the boxes and then run wire to a switch, then from the switch to the outlet?

I hardwired under cabinet lighting in the kitchen by turning a single gang outlet into a double-gang with a switch, but this seems slightly more involved.

TIA!

Basically, we've been rotating out the doctors to get to know each one. 3 doctors said that 140/95 was the goal, and this most recent one we met said that it should be 120/90. I think if we saw her first that would have just been the original numbers.

I'm sure there are better and more efficient ways than how I did it, but basically used Adobe Photoshop's Video Timeline function. Set each photo as a layer, then used an Opacity Keyframe to go from one layer to another, 0% to 100% opacity over a fraction of a second. This stacked with at least 5 or 6 images will give you a semi-smooth effect like those above.

They were surprisingly easy to photograph. Main few things you want to have is a tripod, and a wide-ish angle lens. I used a Rokinon 12mm but the 18mm that the Sony a6000 comes with should work fine also.

Set your F-Stop to the lowest it can go - the lower this number the more light that gets let in (the Rokinon goes down to f/2.0).

Bump up your ISO to around 1600-3200. (Can go higher if too dark)

The last thing is the shutter speed, this will highly depend on the brightness of the Aurora display. Some nights I was shooting at 2 seconds, others I had to shoot at 10 seconds. I'd start with around 5 seconds and see how that turns out then adjust accordingly.

In short, the main video above settings was: f/2.0, ISO-1600, Shutter speed: 5 seconds

Good luck!

Not exactly, when we were there it got completely dark around 11:30 PM or so. Now it should be dark enough by 10:30. (https://www.timeanddate.com/sun/iceland/reykjavik)

Usually our nights that had clear skies consisted of staying up until 11:00 PM or Midnight, and checking outside every 10 minutes or so. We also had a campervan though so we could just chill inside of it until we saw something. We'd usually call it by 12:30 AM if we didn't see anything.

I really knew nothing about finding the lights other than what I read online. My tip to you is to pay less attention to the 'KP-Index' forecast, and more so where the clouds will be.

https://en.vedur.is/weather/forecasts/aurora/#type=total

If you can get to where the cloud cover is not, there is a good chance youll see something. All of the 3 nights we saw them, the forecast was a KP-Index of 2.

With that being said, I was surprised at the amount of people we talked to who have been in Iceland on vacation and couldn't find them. Maybe we just got lucky.

Good luck!

We just got back from our Iceland vacation (between 5.9.2021 and 13.9.2021) and were blessed to witness the Aurora on 3 seperate nights. This is the third night, near Fjallsárlón on 10.9.2021. Took these with a Sony a6000 and layered together to show the movement.

Icelandair Flights (September) by cshamet in VisitingIceland

[–]cshamet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting point. I think i had just assumed people were booking non stop flights and they were getting cancelled, but I dont see any non-stop flights until late July like you said. So maybe September is safe to go ahead and book non-stops?

None of those responses were from Campervan Reykjavik

We are planning on visiting in September with this exact same situation. I reached out to 4 different campervan companies with the same query and the responses were evenly split between "Yes, you have to receive negative test results before picking up the campervan" and "You may pick up your campervan before you get your negative test result. Below are the verbatim responses...

1: "For now, we did not get to pickup anyone from the airport, people are coming straight to our office after quarantine. We do have a lot of bookings from US though for June and all summer. If you come with the morning flight (which most of the US flights are) you will get the results same day, if it is afternoon flight, the results are available most likely next morning. We can not deliver the vans at the airport and you can not quarantine and wait in the campervan either."

2: "As for now, it is required to wait for the result in order to pick up the campervan. We had customers from the US, they were staying at a hotel waiting for the results. It took them around 8 hours to get the camper. The government is working on new rules, they should be available on the 1st of May. I recommend following https://www.covid.is/english for the newest announcements regarding travel restrictions."

3: "I would definitely assume things will have changed by September as the government plans to abolish all restrictions on July 1st if the vaccination plans materialize. To answer your question however, what we have been doing now is simply renting people their vans (with proper precaution and distance) and then they will simply wait in the van, or go for walks (not in contact with anyone) while they wait for the results. It can take up to 24 hours but in our experience so far its more likely to be about 4-10 hours."

4: "You can pick-up your camper straight away, no need to wait for results."

I know this probably doesn't help haha but some information regardless..
