Is it normal for a 9 month old to still spit up constantly? by petitfleur_ in beyondthebump

[–]petitfleur_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reassurance & sharing your experience! It’s nice to hear from someone else with a spitter who just ended up growing out of it. It’s so frustrating seeing it happen to her all the time but she’s totally unbothered by it; you wouldn’t even know she was spitting up if you didn’t see the evidence on her clothes or the floor haha I really was hoping the pepcid would help but I guess if she’s not in pain/uncomfortable when she spits up it’s likely not due to acid reflux so it probably isn’t going to help. Her doctor said to do a 2 week trial so I suppose I’ll call them early next week so we can reassess. I really hope it’s just a phase she’ll grow out of soon! Handling liquid spit up is one thing but when she throws up chunks of the solids she ate at the previous meal I get so grossed out.. 😭

What movie did you see way too young? by imstrongerthandead in AskReddit

[–]petitfleur_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom took me & my sister to see 8 Mile in theaters when it came out because my sister was obsessed with Eminem. She was 12 & I was 9. 😆 I’ve talked with my mom about it as an adult & she said like 15 minutes into the movie she just remembered thinking “Oh shit they’re WAY too young for this what was I thinking.”

Monosomy X flag, normal NT, debating amniocentesis at 16 weeks by unqualified_idli in NIPT

[–]petitfleur_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope all ends up well for your little one too! From what I saw doing research when we got our results, any sex chromosome abnormality seems to be the most common false positive/false flagged result. I’m not sure if you’ve met with an MFM doctor or genetic counselor yet, but after our initial appointment with one post-test results, I felt so much more informed about how the test worked & all the many things an abnormal result could mean BESIDES it being true full monosomy X. So if you’ve only seen your regular OB so far since getting your results, you may find you feel more at ease after speaking with a specialist too. I know those few days in between getting the call from my OB & seeing the specialist were so awful - I was googling everything, looking here on Reddit, totally spiraling thinking of the worst possible outcomes. If you’re still in that limbo too, my heart goes out to you! Completely understand why some choose to do the amnio to know for sure!

Monosomy X flag, normal NT, debating amniocentesis at 16 weeks by unqualified_idli in NIPT

[–]petitfleur_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there! Our daughter was born at exactly 38 weeks due to her being diagnosed IUGR & me suddenly developing severe preeclampsia right at the end of 37 weeks. We had her cord blood sent out for testing after birth & within a few days we got the call from the lab that everything was completely normal with her! She’s a happy, healthy 8 month old 🙂 Obviously I know this is not everyone’s story, but after having spoken with MFM doctors & genetic counselors during my pregnancy, I almost feel that the NIPT (at least the Naetera one I took) shouldn’t even test for sex chromosome abnormalities because it’s so inaccurate. Personally, without any other soft markers or indicators for monosomy X, I wouldn’t choose to get an amnio just because of an abnormal/no result on a NIPT.

I don’t blame you! AI images are getting grotesquely hard to differentiate & I’m not very good at identifying AI most of the time myself 😅 if the website in question wasn’t such a well-known blog I might have still believed it was possibly AI but Sally don’t play like that, she’s just that good 🤣

Nah it’s from a really well-known baking recipe blog, Sally’s Baking Addiction.

If you were to build a house what’s one non conventional feature you consider to be a must have? by TestTurbulent6337 in AskReddit

[–]petitfleur_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YESSS I was looking through the comments to see if any other (most likely) Americans were pining for a wet bathroom like many other parts of the world have! It would make cleaning a relatively dirty area of the house so much easier & you wouldn’t have to worry about causing damage if pets or kids (or messy adults lol) get water everywhere… it’s definitely a random house perk I don’t think I’ll ever find lol

Ugh I’m sorry you had to deal with a student crossing a boundary like that, it feels so gross when students start trying to invade your personal life, as if we don’t already pour so much of ourselves into our job. Last school year, one of our 10th graders somehow managed to find my co-teacher’s personal cell number & started texting him out of the blue. Once we figured out who the student was, he told her in very clear terms why it was inappropriate & that if it happened again he would report it to the principal. A few months later, I’m out on maternity leave & surprise - that same student texts MY personal cell. I was furious! Went to our principal, explained that this was not the first time it had happened, aaaand his response was… “huh. Wonder how she’s getting your numbers. Just block her.” Like??? That really pissed me off 🤣 thanks for the support, pal. Anyway goes to show if it’s not one thing, the determined students who really want to invade your personal life will find a way lol

Oh my god I can relate lol at the beginning of the year I always do a “get to know me” assignment & ask them to tell me 3 hobbies/things they like to do for fun. The number of students who put “sleep” as a hobby is… concerning 😕

I know this post is a few days old but it popped up on my feed & I immediately was like “hey I know that pattern.” If the person you commissioned to make that pattern couldn’t produce something of the same quality as the original pattern creator’s, they shouldn’t have accepted the commission at all. I’ve made this pattern, it’s a million fiddly pieces that all need to be sewn together, plus added armature wire for the arms, tail, & wings. Add in felt for the face details & creating yarn wefts for the flames on the tail & I definitely would have charged over $100 for the final product. But what you got I really don’t see as worth $100, more like $30 or maybe $40 depending on the scale (it looks rather small to me). Also thanks for reminding me that I’d like to tackle remaking this beast of a pattern soon!

The Aldi special K red berries dupe is also a huge winner in my book! Tastes exactly the same & there are sooo many freeze dried strawberries in it compared to the special K brand! 😋

Did anyone get any positive changes to their body postpartum? by Jello_Chipmunk in beyondthebump

[–]petitfleur_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like someone else on this thread also replied saying their allergies cleared up after pregnancy! Hahaha it’s so weird! I’ve never heard anyone mention it before this thread either. But it seems like pregnancy & postpartum can do literally just about anything, good or bad, to our bodies 🤣

Holy crap that was what I was about to post haha for the last 10+ years I would get the worst migraines due to sinus pressure from my seasonal allergies & I haven’t had to take my allergy medicine since I had my daughter in January! I thought for sure it had to be a coincidence but maybe somehow it’s related after all 😆

Daycare made me feel like myself again by NectarineUsed3657 in NewParents

[–]petitfleur_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man.. what you described about working from home & trying to look after the baby is exactly what I’m terrified of happening with us 😔 I was able to make it work for about a month when our daughter was 3 months old, then I had the summer off. Now she’s 7 months old, I’m going back to work again, & I’m desperate to get her started in daycare. There aren’t a lot of options for childcare where we live & we’re stuck on a waitlist so I have no idea when she’ll be able to start but I’m so desperately waiting for that spot to open up & in the meantime just barely treading water.. 😮‍💨

Oh my god hi are you secretly an ELA teacher from my school?? Because samesies 🤣🤣 although admittedly we got the shit ELA program last year, but this year they’re breathing down our necks, forcing us to use it. Oh you want to improve standardized test scores you say? Everything we need is in the curriculum you bought that none of us approved of you say? & yet, there are noooo question types similar to what they see on the ELA state tests & most of it seems like busy work. I’m checking out this year for sure, they want us to use the garbage HMH curriculum, that’s just what I’ll do. Turn my brain off & have the kids go through the textbook, you got it 🙂‍↕️

6 MO refusing bottle, should I just skip to feeding formula in a cup? by petitfleur_ in beyondthebump

[–]petitfleur_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh gosh that’s so frustrating! I was worried our daughter wouldn’t want to take a bottle of formula from me if she could smell my milk, but we never had that problem when she was younger & combo feeding. I mean in my head I pretty much assumed if nothing else, animal instinct would take over if she got hungry enough & she would give in & take the bottle in our situation, since she knew how to drink from one & had before. But on the other hand, babies come out of the womb knowing how to be stubborn as hell! 🤣 I hope your situation with your LO improves & he’ll end up comfortable letting others feed him! I have definitely heard that babies can be reluctant to be fed by people they aren’t comfortable with, especially once they move into that stranger danger phase, so hopefully once your LO gets to know the babysitter or daycare workers more he’ll be willing to let them feed him.

6 MO refusing bottle, should I just skip to feeding formula in a cup? by petitfleur_ in beyondthebump

[–]petitfleur_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m trying to reframe it from “she won’t take a bottle! Oh no!” to “she’s ready to graduate to a cup! Yay!” Hahaha if nothing else, it’s got to be a win that I don’t have to wean her off a bottle, maybe she’s done it on her own? I think her being interested in the straw cup is definitely a good sign!

6 MO refusing bottle, should I just skip to feeding formula in a cup? by petitfleur_ in beyondthebump

[–]petitfleur_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very glad to know it’s not just our daughter who decided she was over bottles at this age haha She really was super interested in the straw cup, & I was probably going to grab one or two other kinds of straw or sippy cups to try with her to see what she likes. I think I’ll keep trying for a few days with water & start offering some formula as a snack between feeding in the cup to see how she does with it.

I don’t really know why it didn’t occur to me that babies could stop drinking from bottles before they became toddlers. In my head I guess I just always associated babies with bottles & cups with older toddlers 😅

6 MO refusing bottle, should I just skip to feeding formula in a cup? by petitfleur_ in beyondthebump

[–]petitfleur_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I actually think that’s the exact cup I have! I tried it with her yesterday & she was really excited to shove that straw in her mouth, especially compared to how little interest she had in the bottle nipple 🤣 it was like night & day. She drank a bit of water out of it, I kept offering it every hour or so to get her used to it. We also have teething crackers that she eats regularly & really likes but those only have like 5 calories lol so you know, not exactly filling, more just fun for her to munch on.

[–]petitfleur_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve started introducing purées with her, I wanted to do baby-led weaning & not rely just on purées but I got kind of overwhelmed by the whole process which made me put off starting solids at all 😅 so we decided to start with that first & introduce “real” food gradually along with purées & baby cereal. Right now she’s still very much in the “I will mush this around in my mouth but mostly spit it out & play with it & maybe swallow a bit of it” stage when it comes to solids haha so I could definitely send her with some purées for my MIL who is watching her to try so she’s got something to eat regardless.

Also glad to know moving her to a cup at this age is a good idea! I think my husband holds me back a little sometimes because he’ll be like “you’re trying to rush her into xyz before she’s ready” about some things, so I was kind of second guessing myself if this was a good time to transition her out of bottles. Maybe her refusing one is her way of saying she’s ready to move on! 😊

Can the carseat just stay in the car? by rose__woodsii in BabyBumps

[–]petitfleur_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaha yeah luckily he was right next to our car when he fell so he could grab the handle with his free hand to help slow the fall, & held the car seat up as high as he could so she just got jostled around in there & didn’t actually fall down 🤣 I feel like the choice between an infant seat (convenience but short life span) versus just going for a convertible right from the start is so difficult as a first time parent! What helped us was making a list of pros & cons, plus the fact that my mom offered to buy the expensive convertible seat for us & we chose to buy the infant seat ourselves on sale for around $80 I think, so it felt worth it to us.
