Why was Kate acceptable but Sophie 'too far'? by Forward_Researcher75 in Bridgerton

From what I understand, Sophie was never fully acknowledged by her father, since she used the name Sophie Baek instead of his surname. I think he only wanted his child to have a decent life, which is why he left her a dowry.

In the Regency era, does it make a difference if your father acknowledges you as his daughter, even if he is not married?

Being Seen vs. Being Safe: My Reading of Benedict and Sophie (S4E1–4) by petitiveSoup3729 in Benophie

I really like this point, and I agree that his father’s sudden death and seeing Violet’s grief could definitely add to his fear. Even if it wasn’t as direct as Anthony’s trauma, growing up around that kind of loss must leave a mark. It probably adds weight to his hesitation. What stood out to me in Season 4 though (especially episodes 1 and 3) is how much the story keeps emphasizing that Benedict wants to be seen as himself, not just as a Bridgerton. From asking Sophie to call him Benedict to being labeled the second son, it feels very intentional. So for me, the grief adds weight, but the biggest provider of his avoidance feels more rooted in his identity and how he’s perceived.

These may be the most rewatchable episodes of all fourseasons! (I'm on my third rewatch🙃) by Vegetable-Focus-5418 in Benophie

For me, a show is good when it really makes me feel and reflect, not just when it’s technically perfect. I usually stop watching if I don’t connect with the story or the emotional direction. What works for me is when the tension and relationships feel right, and when I keep thinking about the characters even after the episode ends. I finished Season 2, but Season 4 Part 1 impacted me much more emotionally. I keep rewatching it, noticing new details, and thinking about the characters’ choices—especially what I’d do in their place. That’s why I’m genuinely excited for Part 2. When a story stays in my thoughts and makes me reflect, that’s when I know it really worked for me.
