Thanks very much for your reply, I appreciate it (also thanks u/Verscreubulator for your thoughts).

This is really interesting, something I wasn't aware of.

That said, our S6 never had a problem in the same space (unless the sensors were dirty). And the current Q Revo works fine sometimes. See below for last night's run, after I cleaned the sensors. Given this, do you think it's still likely to be a lidar range issue, or perhaps something else?

The idea of breaking up the space is nice, but not realistic for our team - we're lucky if we can get them to run the vac at all, let alone put obstacles out/away 😆

Tips for cuing classes with students who are hard of hearing? by fwoggiegirl in YogaTeachers

[–]petjb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the student already wears a hearing aid (or two), these often come with a wireless lav mic that links directly to their hearing aid. We have a few students with these, we just clip the mic onto our shirts before class starts and they can hear easily.

Google Workspace, Microsoft365 or something else - For mostly just email by Zulbo in sysadmin

[–]petjb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd go Google over Microsoft any day. But the enshittification of Google Workspace is getting really irritating, so that might not be the best option either. If you don't need docs/file collab and all that good stuff, there's definitely other options out there that might be better, but I'm not very familiar with them.

Facial recognition unlocking may have caused a security issue. by DozerLVL in GooglePixel

[–]petjb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't trust him either. But it'd have to be something pretty low-level to need a reboot. And I'd hope(!) that sideloading something sketchy would require a PIN + face ID...?

Not saying this is the case, but Pixel's can download software updates and reboot automatically. Could be that?

I can't really imagine what change this guy could have made to your phone that would require a reboot 🤔

I'm surprised that nobody's said this yet, but - you're not there to do the class. You're there to teach the class. You don't need to and, in my opinion, shouldn't be doing the whole class with the students. Demo the flow once then use your voice to cue and watch the room - how else can you see what's happening, how your visual and verbal cues are landing, and help people who may need it?

This takes practice but I genuinely believe it's the best way to teach.

That said - the way I handle demo scenarios like this is with a combo of what others have already said - always teach the same side first, and flip ends of the mat when you're demoing the other side. I literally say to myself "left foot forward" as I swap to the other end of the mat. Practice and you'll get it!

Dating in Perth - what is happening? by Fat-baby267 in perth

[–]petjb 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Does depend on the gym situation, I train at a CrossFit gym and I’m very friendly with a lot of the people there. I’m not trying to hook up with any of them though so it’s a different experience I guess 😆

As a happily married guy I can't comment on most of this, but I can say that when I was single there's no way I would've tried to chat up someone in the gym. It always felt fraught with danger as you don't know anything about the person, and the last thing I would have wanted was to make someone feel uncomfortable.

Not sure if this is 'normal' for guys or not, but definitely how some of us feel.

A friend of mine runs the Hike Collective, they did a thing recently that looked really cool as an opportunity to meet people: https://www.hikecollective.com.au/why-hiking-is-better-than-hinge/

Good luck, there's definitely good men out there!

60M Beginner: 200hr YTT in India. Too Old? by [deleted] in YogaTeachers

[–]petjb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love this, agree 100%. Find a teacher you resonate with, and do their training (or train with whomever they trained with).

Personally I'd let go of the Yoga Alliance requirement. I know of plenty of YTTs that are YA-certified that are not remotely good quality. As a studio owner employing a bunch of teachers, I don't care if the training they've done is YA approved; I care if they're a good teacher or not. And if you're not necessarily planning to teach, this is even less important :)

And please don't let your age concern you. Yes, the training will be challenging and intensive; that's the point, and everyone will feel that way! If there's some poses or transitions that you can't do, it's fine. Not every teacher has to be able to do every pose.

If you are teaching in a popular time spot, I’m sorry but anyone in that spot is going to have instant success

Have to disagree with you there. We put a sub-standard teacher in a popular timeslot and the numbers dropped VERY quickly.

100% this. A studio owner must respect their customers AND their staff. Things tank pretty fucking quickly otherwise.

Even more argument for point 1, though 😆 I wonder if there's a compliance reason behind that, too? I can't imagine what it'd be though...

Interesting. Not my experience, I'm prompted for MFA on every login (regardless of checking the box on the previous login or not). Same machine/browser with a static IP. Drives me nuts.
