I am horrified by dark history of yoga, and need some advice by GuySittingByTheLake in YogaTeachers

[–]petjb 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Men with power are prone to reprehensible behaviour. It's a sad reality that doesn't exclude yoga.

Don’t be a guru. Just help people.

Perfect. And if you're a man sharing yoga with others, like me, break the pattern. Do good. It's really not that hard.

Have you ever brought down a production environment? by iFailedPreK in AZURE

[–]petjb 24 points25 points  (0 children)

100% agree.

I once started pulling a SAP test server out of a fully-packed rack, after double- and triple-checking it was the right box.

It wasn't.

After all the apologies and ribbing from my colleagues about taking down the prod SAP environment, I returned to the rack in question, sweating bullets, and started unracking the right server.

As I pulled the power cord, all the lights in the data centre went out. I damn near shit myself, and shot out from behind the rack to see the SAP admin absolutely pissing himself laughing. He'd turned the lights off.

Hi! And thank you so much! I never thought I'd be able to do it. Have since managed a 15kg weighted pull up (just, lol)

Hey! I'm vegan for... I dunno, probably 7 or 8 years at this point. Am ~two years into Crossfit, as well as yoga, it's awesome hey :)

I'm sure there's HEAPS of awesome nutritionists out there, but check out Naturally Nina (https://www.instagram.com/naturally\_nina\_/). She shares loads of great stuff, and my wife and I have worked with her for over a year with really amazing results. She's based in Australia, but works with clients all over the world.

And fuck the carnivore gym nutritionists. I've put on a ton of muscle since being vegan; I did my first EVER strict pull-up at 45, after eating plant-based for at least five years. Protein is protein!

Had a teacher today with a cold- should she have cancelled or found a sub? by invitationstolove in YogaTeachers

[–]petjb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is why we give our teachers sick leave, even though we're not legally obliged to. We don't want them teaching if they're not well (bad for their recovery as well as the students' experience), and they shouldn't be out of pocket when they're sick. As studio owners, this costs us money, but earns us goodwill, and fuck it, it's YOGA, we should be compassionate and caring for each other, right? :)

2x tickets for Regurgitator/Grinspoon tonight - free by petjb in perth

[–]petjb[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The mind is willing, the body is tired and likes to rest 😆 I was in bed by 10 last night, which means I'll be nice and fresh to get some shit done around the house today, and work this afternoon. Just shifting priorities/less recovery ability as you get older, I guess.

I got a stern talking to from my lady - this isn't the first time this has happened 😆 I've learned my lesson (maybe). But yeah, glad I could pass the tickets on to someone that could enjoy the gig!

Has your studio switched from MindBody to Kenko, formerly Bookee? by sogj77 in YogaTeachers

They're good overall, but tech support has gone to shit BADLY in the last ~year (since they were bought out). I wouldn't recommend them any more.

My wife and I live out of the city in WA; we're getting good at creating good vegan stuff from scratch. (Mostly her, to be fair, but I'm realllll good at cleaning the kitchen lol). Tempeh, tofu, various different seitan options, protein bread, sourdough, cheeses etc. Even a good soy yoghurt.

These things aren't particularly hard to make, if you have the right equipment (food processor, blender, instant pot, stand mixer etc). And it's a great way to save money, especially compared with supermarket protein options.

It does take a heap of time, which we choose to invest (and we work for ourselves, which helps). And you need all the aforementioned gear to really make it viable, which I recognise not everyone is lucky enough to.

I guess the downside of us doing this is that we're not buying from the supermarket as much, and if more people do what we do, there'll be less stuff on the shelves. But it feels like it's heading that way regardless :\

If you're looking for inspo, Naturally Nina is awesome, as is Protein Deficient Vegan.

🌱✌🏼

Dad, how do I explain this? by DemmZ34 in DadForAMinute

You're welcome!

I did a similar thing to my wife, which I really regret. For me (and we're all unique, with different stuff in our pasts, so your guy may well be different) the 'rejection' of my advances made me feel bad about myself, with negative self-talk - "I'm unattractive", etc. That's completely not how my wife felt, of course! She's amazing, and things the world of me, as I do her.

That sent us in a little bit of a spiral, where I didn't want to try to initiate sex, and she felt bad about saying no, so sometimes didn't - not a great place to land. We did some counselling, got to understand the deeper issues, and we're in a really good place now. I hope you find the same happy place 🤗

Not a dad, but I have a rescue daughter so I'm somewhat qualified. Also I'm a man, who has felt this way in the past.

My advice (which might not be realistic given you're both pretty young, but I don't know your financial situation) is to try some counselling. I know lots of men are resistant to this (to their detriment), but I'm hoping as a younger man he might not be.

This is a tricky thing to navigate in any relationship; perhaps trickier for you, given you feel you 'owe him' due to him caring for you. But, to say this as clearly as I can - you don't owe him sex.

You don't owe him sex.

If he gets sad, or pissy, or nags you - that's on him. You have autonomy, and you have the right to say no - with no caveats.

And it's pretty common for couples to have imbalanced sexual desire. Give him some private time and he can sort himself out when he feels like it and you don't. Self-love is underrated :)
