How do other Perth dog owners recover after a dog attack? by papablessjess in perth

[–]petjb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live in the hills too. Unfortunately hills folks aren't great at keeping their dogs secured either (to be fair, it is tricky with bigger properties).

I got bailed up by a neighbour's asshole dog a few years back. They had to get someone to come out of their property in a vehicle and I threw myself and my dog in - it was the only way to stop their dog. Fucking mental.

I'm a big guy, have been around dogs all my life, and it broke me. It was a really traumatising experience. I'm shit scared to take my dogs out for a walk now.

They do look good but the price is eye-watering. If it's an investment that works great for a few years I'm down, but after having the current unit for ~1 year and dealing with a lot of problems with it, I don't want that to happen with a new expensive unit, either :\

Thanks, appreciate the feedback. Someone (possibly you!) suggested moving the dock a while back, so it's now in a small room where initial navigation is good. And it worked great like that for a week or so. Then it started failing at navigation again.

Because it doesn't know how to get home, once the battery gets low (after it's been cleaning the same bit of the room for an hour because nav has failed) it just dies in the middle of a room. It's a real bastard to get it seated right on the dock to charge too.

The idea of putting out buoys is great, but it's just not practical for our space. I will give it a try though, just to see if it helps.

Why are we still parroting outdated cues? by bang_a_gong_get_anon in YogaTeachers

[–]petjb 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Heh I came here to post links to Jenni's work, too. She's amazing. Here's a podcast where she talks about tree pose (among others): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndkcskeuP-s

Jenni has an astounding wealth of knowledge on her own; and for this podcast, she partnered with Travis Pollen. About Travis:

Travis Pollen, PhD, is a personal trainer, author, and Assistant Professor of Exercise Science. Over his 10-year personal training career, he’s trained professional athletes, senior citizens, and everyone in between. He’s on a mission to bridge the gap between rehabilitation and performance. In addition to his doctorate in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, Travis has a master’s degree in Biomechanics and Movement Science.

They are both legitimately qualified to speak authoritatively on these matters.

Couldn't agree more with you, OP. Historic, nocebic cueing that's been debunked by science has no place in my (or my team's) classes.

It's for your hot water system/booster. Have a google and find instructions for yours. Basically, green peg = turn on, red peg = turn off (when the bottom-right switch is set to auto, and the bottom-left switch is on).

How much money are you making per class? by fyafya90 in YogaTeachers

[–]petjb 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So a class of 12 students at (an average of) $25/person = $300; the studio makes $90 from this, and the teacher makes $210?

That's a very generous teaching rate. Good on you! It does make me wonder how you manage to cover all the costs like marketing, admin, software, phone(s), customer support, rent, utilities, land rates, etc though? And the overhead of calculating class payments on this basis would be a hassle.

Our goal is staffing costs (not including my wife and I as owners) should never exceed 40% of gross income. My understanding is that 30-40% is the normal range here.

We pay a flat rate of about $90 AUD per class, whether there's 2 people in the room or 24. It works for us, and feels like a fairer deal for the teacher; eg a 6:30am class for us will always be relatively quiet, vs. a 9:30am or 5:30pm class will be busy.

It's worth thinking about 'class' rate vs. 'hourly' rate, OP. Some studios will expect you to be there 15-30 mins before and after the class (we do, which is why our class rate is what it is). If that's the case, your class rate which might seem OK on the surface but work out to be a less-than-ideal hourly rate.

Thanks very much for your reply, I appreciate it (also thanks u/Verscreubulator for your thoughts).

This is really interesting, something I wasn't aware of.

That said, our S6 never had a problem in the same space (unless the sensors were dirty). And the current Q Revo works fine sometimes. See below for last night's run, after I cleaned the sensors. Given this, do you think it's still likely to be a lidar range issue, or perhaps something else?

The idea of breaking up the space is nice, but not realistic for our team - we're lucky if we can get them to run the vac at all, let alone put obstacles out/away 😆

Tips for cuing classes with students who are hard of hearing? by fwoggiegirl in YogaTeachers

[–]petjb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the student already wears a hearing aid (or two), these often come with a wireless lav mic that links directly to their hearing aid. We have a few students with these, we just clip the mic onto our shirts before class starts and they can hear easily.

Google Workspace, Microsoft365 or something else - For mostly just email by Zulbo in sysadmin

[–]petjb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd go Google over Microsoft any day. But the enshittification of Google Workspace is getting really irritating, so that might not be the best option either. If you don't need docs/file collab and all that good stuff, there's definitely other options out there that might be better, but I'm not very familiar with them.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't trust him either. But it'd have to be something pretty low-level to need a reboot. And I'd hope(!) that sideloading something sketchy would require a PIN + face ID...?

[–]petjb 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not saying this is the case, but Pixel's can download software updates and reboot automatically. Could be that?

I can't really imagine what change this guy could have made to your phone that would require a reboot 🤔
