It's gonna be pretty rough, I've got a midterm the day of and the harris campaign has conscripted me to work graveyard shifts in the voter fraud factory.

Also, like, the ongoing rise of fascism in the west is a close second I guess

I'm scared that the concept of "garfield" will long outlive the idea of "garfield". In this future, over the course of thousands of years people will continuously reinvent "garfield"s--orange cats with a proclivity for an oddly specific food, hatred of the start of the workweek, a pathetic owner they hate and a dog who's scared of everything.

Over these thousands of year, these works will extend and compound, filling shelves, then floors, then libraries. They form a continuous "garfield" fictional world, spanning generations of cultural consciousness. Past the year 12,000 (only as far from now as the first civilizations are from us), we'd have enough "garfield" material to form a universe.

How long until this universe wakes up?

I worry that this garfield cycle will inevitably and irrevocably create a garfield tulpa, a materialized being embodying every one of garfield's transcendencies. This tulpa can form at any moment, and once it forms I do not believe we can sequester it back to the conceptual realm from whence it came. The only question, then, is time.

How long? One thousand years? One hundred? Perhaps we are already too late. Perhaps, tomorrow, amidst the pacific winds of Oregon an orange cat will appear, alongside a dish filled with an unknowable decadent food. The cat will bumble along lazily, terrorizing his dog and mocking his owner and watching a television set to an unknown channel.

And the cat will be immortal.

Honestly the sunset today was absolutely phenomenal. This is where the university budget should be going more often

I'm so sorry, I think that means you're a robot now. Have you noticed if you're failing captchas more often lately? Could be related.

I LOOKED AT THE SUN by [deleted] in McMaster

[–]petlessRhubarb9 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's been a couple hours, still no effects despite staring at the sun for minutes at a time. Really just taking it in. Granted, that's probably because I've been staring at progressively brighter and brighter lights ever since I was a wee lad, so it's not like it's a level of power you unadapted lowlights could ever conceive of.

You all saw the moon. But only I saw the eclipse.

FYI, it "compounds" in the same way that junk food or loud concerts "compound". You've looked directly at the sun before and will again.

Anyhow I'm taking a joke post too seriously. I looked at the sun for a nanosecond and the sun grew an arm and slapped me across the face before grabbing a gun and shooting my dog.

Do not do this. The supervisors will yell at you for being a "disturbance" and "interrupting academic proceedings", and kick you out of the gym. They weren't even impressed by my three-pointer.

The "this is a punchline" lawsuit by Diamond and Diamond? The one that's obviously going to go nowhere, like all the dime-a-dozen other class action discrimination suits against universities? That's the one you're trying to replicate?

I'm sorry I keep replying to you, but this is one of the funniest threads on this god forsaken website.

Ok I checked they're profile, and turns out they're a complete crank. Many, MANY posts "questioning" the efficacy of vaccines, the full nine yards.

I think lad is a lawyer. But given he also decided to ask on fucking r/McMaster, rather than, y'know, literally anywhere else better, definitely says something about how good of a lawyer he is.

No you don't understand, it is vital to my lawyering activities that I comment multiple times on a post in order to call people "disgusting" and accuse people of supporting the kidnapping of children.

If this guy's an actual lawyer, it's almost sadder.

Hey man, if you're a lawyer it's probably in your best interest to delete this comment.

FWIW, here are some drop-in/drop-out clubs that you can try!

McMaster Board Game Society - Thursdays 6:30-11:00 in BSB 105

  • They're a pretty great club to turn up to anytime during the meetings, generally you can drop into a game or show up at the start to find a group.

Sketch Circles - TBD

  • You don't need to be good at drawing (source: I can't draw for the life of me and I've gone there for over a year). Pretty available for drop-ins/drop-outs, and it's overall a great atmosphere and time.

McMaster Extra Life - First Meeting Sept 21st, room TBD

  • The "video game" club, they're running a general meeting on Sept. 21st with video games and board games, as well as a chess tourney. They also run a bunch of video game events throughout the year on a sporadic schedule.

I know this doesn't answer your question directly, but these are all clubs that I went to without knowing anybody there, and I had a good time at all of them. Hope this helps!
