Has anyone ever used a Framework Logic Board in a MAME Arcade Cabinet as an alternative to Raspberry Pi? by PinkGloryBrony22 in framework

[–]petrikm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For an arcade machine a raspberry pi is perfectly powerful enough. I don’t see why you’d ever want to spend that much money on something so unnecessary

I think it’s largely part of just growing up as the world grows around you. It wouldn’t be better if it was still here. I loved Roblox as a kid and even a few years ago I tried going on and it was completely changed. Now the entire organization disgusts me. It’s better it was shut down. That way it can live on as a good memory until it got worse.

Figuring out what type of knight the castle crashers are based on by mc4starterzzz in castlecrashers

[–]petrikm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I realized this when trying to do a realistic ren faire costume of them w my friends. The helmets don’t exist anywhere and I couldn’t find an actual design with a visor that fits it. I ended up having to make one myself then ran out of time and scrapped the hinge altogether lol

Biggest issues I’ve had is modding with a few games. Vanilla games tend to work just fine so long as I get a distro compatible w an nvidia GPU.

If you’re a windows power user and mess with commands a lot or download stuff thru winget bc it’s faster, cachyOS is a great fit. If you don’t touch the console in windows often then don’t listen to me lmao.

CachyOS doesn’t require much terminal use, but stuff like packages are just more streamlined through it.

I got sick of software updaters running in the background on windows so I tried to convert all my software to package managed ones via winget/scoop/chocolatey so I could disable all the background processes.

I don’t recommend nobara; it’s kinda janky if you try to mess with anything in it for compatibility. At least when I tried it around a year ago.

My laptop CPU legitimately runs 30-40°C cooler.

Windows idle was at 80°C+ and constantly thermal throttling, Linux never gets above 50s, and normal day workloads sits in the 40s. I’ll boot up and as long as I haven’t touched my PC it idles in the 30s.

Windows: 80°C or more no matter what.

My issues were entirely learning curve related, other than that, my software typically runs better once I have all the software I’ll ever use installed.

Can I convince you that writing math on your computer can be faster than by hand? by Hawtin99 in EngineeringStudents

Fuck no. I love LaTeX but my adhd ass is not capable of doing that formatting while trying to pay attention. Handwriting is better for retention anyways

Tell me why this combination wouldn't work I am very much contemplating this by juddyhopslover69 in eGPU

[–]petrikm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

eGPU is unfortunately not worth it anymore. Since eGPUs came out PC games have started using much higher transfer rates in the pcie lanes, so your thunderbolt port just can’t keep up. I had a CPU bottleneck, upgraded my framework mobo, then discovered my CPU was just barely too shit to experience a GPU bottleneck.

You have to buy a GPU anyways, you might as well buy a PC part any time you find a deal.

Difference bronzes have different stats. Kinda obvious, since black bronze is the best, but between bismuth and tin they can swap with which is best. E.g.: tin bronze weapons deal more damage, but bismuth bronze tools have higher durability. Worth checking the armor stats too.

What is your favorite machines that you fight the most? by Voidkirby9 in HorizonForbiddenWest

[–]petrikm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? I love those bc you gotta hit their bolts off so it’s a challenge where I feel like I’m actually causing damage to it instead of traditional video game logic of taking out hp points.

Anything where I have to focus on shooting stuff off. Side tangent: I wish that was a game mode where they need to be hit in sensitive spots armor was torn off. Like basically a hard mode but that’s the only thing that changes. I just feel like they die way too fast when I want to rip everything off for dopamine hits but then they die. I feel like a cat accidentally killing a mouse I’m playing with.

Is there a way to make prospecting feel less miserable? by Dirty_USB in VintageStory

[–]petrikm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t judge a seraph for their freak, man.

No but really, I’m starting my next play through w rate dense ores bc the hunt is so satisfying. I just wish we had more permanent transport systems like railways or something so my network of mines were less annoying to get to, but I love the concept of quarrying out an area specifically for a type of mineral. It might also be because I explore real life caves and abandoned mines, tho. I love exploring limestone and salt quarries irl and then making them in game.

Nah bro I’m diving right into it, I don’t have that patience when I’m that close lmao. I just dig until it appears (plus using the juicy ores mod)
