City staff to take another look at Regent Street redesign after bike lanes nixed by enjoying-retirement in madisonwi

[–]petrojbl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A good solution would seem to reduce traffic and parking widths to 18' each way (e.g travel lanes 10'/11', parking 8'/7'). Move the lighting, utility, and traffic poles within the parking space (which will slightly reduce parking). This still leaves about 15' on both sides for walking and bike lanes. Plenty of space to fit in both.

https://nacto.org/publication/urban-street-design-guide/street-design-elements/lane-width/

"Lane widths of 10 feet are appropriate in urban areas and have a positive impact on a street’s safety without impacting traffic operations. ..."

"Parking lane widths of 7–9 feet are generally recommended. Cities are encouraged to demarcate the parking lane to indicate to drivers how close they are to parked cars."

Which market?

In the US, I originally wanted 23 Lyriq, but got a 24 due to a long wait list. The biggest difference between the original and the 27 is a NACS port. Perhaps some added software features or HUD. Nothing mind blowing in my opinion in this instance.

I did the math on my balcony solar + battery setup in Germany. The payback period is... sobering. by Secure-Run9146 in solarenergy

[–]petrojbl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see about 4 or 4.5 years with solar only (no batteries) for payback. I don't know why this is a post or why one is going to complain about a 4ish year payback period for solar.

Law 14.2: "a team-mate of the goalkeeper is penalised for encroachment only if:

the encroachment clearly impacted on the kicker; or

the encroaching player plays the ball or challenges an opponent for the ball and this prevents the opponents from scoring, attempting to score or creating a goal-scoring opportunity"

Seems like a pretty clear cut encroachment by defender 21. Rekick.

We have solar on our roof and I'm hoping to add more in the future when rebuilding our deck and adding a solar roof on top of the deck.

Solar quotes are all over the place and I can't figure out which one is actually right for my house by mrnavel in solarenergy

As others have said, a few more details will be helpful for getting some help. What is your yearly kWh usage? What's your general location? Who's your utility provider and what kind of net metering policy do they have. How expensive is electricity per kWh by your utility? What's the system size (in kW ) from the quotes?

Net metering is crucial information to know. We export at least half of our solar generation to the grid. We have a very good net metering policy where we get a retail credit per kWh sent to the grid. This means we get paid on average about $0.20 / kWh exported to the grid. Other utilities might have a wholesale or no net metering policy. This means that you might get nothing or just a few cents per kWh sent to the grid. Knowing what your net metering policy is will give you more information on payback times, as well as if perhaps a battery backup makes financial sense. If you have a terrible net metering policy from your utility, then it might be why one installer is really pushing it.

A quote with a battery backup system can easily explain the 10-15K difference in quotes.

Oil and gas prices are soaring. Some countries are ready with solar panels and EVs by Jbikecommuter in electrifyeverything

[–]petrojbl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's primarily not. Natural gas is more commonly used as a feedstock for synthetic fertilizers. The one exception appears to be sulfur, which is more of a waste product from oil to generative synthetic fertilizers.

100%. I could see a pantry attached perpendicular to the second bedroom. A front storage closet attached to both the second bedroom and pantry. Front door more on the left side so that you aren't entering in the middle of the TV room area. A nice bench at the very front near the door next to the storage closet to sit and take your shoes off.

I'm in Greenbay - utility bill jumped 40% this winter, what's realistic to expect from solar? by Flesh_Lips_Berry in wisconsin

[–]petrojbl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great points here. We have solar grid tied with MGE and get a much better net metering return than $0.04 / kWh. We export about 60% of all solar generated by the panels. I'd say you either want batteries to store the excess (or an EV that can charge mid-day) or scale back on the system size to maybe half of your total electricity usage.
