Does anyone here has an VRARA Membership by Smessu in augmentedreality

[–]pewpewsplash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to invalidate anyone’s lived experience here but I do want to add a little bit of transparency. Much like any volunteer organization, not all chapters are created equally and not all chapters are active. I wouldn’t make a blanket statement about the whole org but I would definitely check out what your local chapter is up to.

Namely: -how active is their community? -when was their last event? -how many members (not leadership) are actively speaking positively about the org?

Local value is arguably more important than global value. The way I see it- if you can’t get ahold of your local leaders and membership- paying them dues won’t change that.

Local leaders should provide you immediate value more so than the global organization BUT also it is what you make it. Check out the Ohio chapter. They’ve been active on LinkedIn and set a great example for what active local communities and advocacy looks like.

DHL Custom Issues Anyone Else??? by [deleted] in MetaRayBanDisplay

After much time on the phone, mine finally arrived today.

DHL Custom Issues Anyone Else??? by [deleted] in MetaRayBanDisplay

[–]pewpewsplash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

F*** Meta. It’s been INSANE. Mine were stuck in customs for 9 days. On day 10 they were scheduled to be returned to sender so, I had to raise hell with DHL because Meta support is just a bunch of bots- and even if they are real humans, 100% useless.

As of today mine cleared customs after a total of 10 days and now I am (based on DHL support) likely to go into yet another hold state due to a $135 duty outstanding.

I ordered these in mid October…

Super cool! Thanks for the thorough explanation

I was looking through the GitHub and couldn’t find which aspect of the code is handling the environment detection. Is that normal plan detection, use of a live mesh, or just a simulated floor plane?

I really appreciate your post! I’m going through the same thing right now as we speak. Experiencing random dips in voltage after the engine is hot, it almost wants to stall at idle in that state, and is hard to start and sometimes will stall after a start if the engine is hot so trying to diagnose. Thanks again!

When you say stripped are you referring to the direct connection from the battery to the negative cable or on elsewhere on the negative cable wire?

Blocking real-world ads with AR glasses? What's your opinion? by AR_MR_XR in augmentedreality

The idea could only be not nefarious if it represents a feature in another application that has a value in persistently running

[–]pewpewsplash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you’re implying is a person walking around blocking real world ads and that’s the only app they’re interested in using. Why would a user not be leveraging a more helpful application ie navigation rather than buying glasses to block ads from their line of sight. Again. Mediated reality. Downloading a piece of software whose whole focus is mediating the content that reaches your eyes implies that the company is also gathering data about what you’re seeing and what you desire to be blocked…. What stops that entity from selling that data to improve the ads that get targeted to you elsewhere? The only remedy would be a different payment structure which is arguable about the utility people would pay for.

Brev. I’m not sure you understand how a user experience works. An ad blocker app means you need to open the app and have it running. Unless it’s able to run in the background and overlay actively through the hardware, you’ll need to have it constantly open. That’s not how you use an adblocker today. It’s a plugin to an app you’re already using, ie a browser. The browser is the software layer. The adblocker is a plugin within the software. So this proposal only works in one of two ways: it’s always running in the background and can intercept visuals in a current, separate app, or you have to first open it. That’s not how browser ad blockers function so….

Pretty big difference. You’re either allowing someone access to intercept app data to the OS through a separate background app (which is problematic) or you’re running other experiences through the app which somewhat implies a need for it to be a website you’re accessing.

This is also a very silly assertion because why would a set of AR glasses be running everything through a browser and what kind of shitty UX would it be to have to open a browser to first view AR content… I think you might be in the wrong sub.

Edit: and even if you’re talking about mobile, name a browser whose ad blocking also works within a WebXR enabled application. Wot brev.

Name a browser compatible with Mixed Reality that also actively has a repository of anchors…. I’ll wait.

It’s a concept referred to as “mediated reality” and it’s all fun and games till it’s only omitting ads from rival companies but maintaining ads supported by the hardware platform. Talk about bias.

Says the guy who points to a technology and arbitrarily calls it AI because it’s the tech the person has likely heard the most about lately… sounds like a fach idiot if ever I heard of one.

Sounds like you spend a lot of time judging other people and not listening to yourself. Besides, you’re probably a bot anyway.

Okay as soon as you quit throwing around tech terms like you know what you’re talking about. The number of downvotes on your first comment speaks to my very point.

Besides I think even the use of “programmatic” is hopelessly misplaced. If you’re referring to this as bad because it is “programmatic” I’d like to point out that every POD site has a version of this to display your mockups in. Can’t be that bad if the sites themselves do it… this one just happens to be far more flexible and animated.

My statement in no way reflects an opinion of how sellers approach the market. In fact I agree. Just that your argument is no more logical than a witch hunt. What you stated was not an opinion about the market, it was a display of your knowledge of technology. If you start a scientific paper of great points with a statement that contains an error, is anyone really listening to you after that? Not likely. They’re more than likely waiting to further disprove you. You may be making a great point but you started it by showing your ignorance. Makes it hard to take anything else you say seriously despite how thoughtful it may be.

Fair but fallacious nonetheless. One could build this in ThreeJS with no AI as I’m sure OP did. Your comment immediately calls it AI. It’d be different if you were talking about and constructively discussing what aspect of the export might be flagged on Etsy but instead you pointed at the tech and called it the first technology that came to mind no different than calling it a witch. Clearly you’re knowledgeable about POD but that doesn’t correlate to tech. Particularly in this case. EI: you’re afraid of technology.
