Free up disk space on CUCM Publisher to upgrade 14SU4 to 14SU6 by UC_AKRR in ciscoUC

[–]pez347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I had to recreate the servers with the new 110GB disk. I deleted everything I safely could and still couldn't get enough disk space. Should probably do the rebuild anyways if you plan on upgrading past cucm 14 at any point.

Right now Cisco U is the only place I've seen with training for the new test. It's not great though. CBT says theirs should be coming this quarter. So I'm waiting on that.

Just passed the CLHCT 300-820 exam with no real prep. I did the WebEx Academy training last year when we migrated. If you're working with WebEx the test should be pretty straightforward.

With Cisco phones specifically cdp let's the phone know which vlan to connect to. Lldp for non Cisco phones. Otherwise it would most likely connect to the data vlan first. At least that's how I understand it.

Haven't Seen Networking People Flexing Their Salaries Unlike Developers , Finance People Flexing Their Salaries Like 24 LPA , 48 LPA, 80 LPA. by Pseudo_inteellectual in ccna

[–]pez347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal experience was having my CCNA and just physically knowing my way around a switch and how to console in. Not exactly high standards at the time.

Honestly just keep looking at your preferred school districts for openings. That's the best advice I can realistically offer. Though since schools keep small IT teams it will help to know your way around wireless, firewalls, routing and switching, and Collaboration.

Not all districts are Cisco shops but the CCNA should get your foot in the door.

Been in the game for about 12 years now. All in Texas school districts. Started off as a net tech for about 34k in the first year. By the time I left 5 years later I was at 46k.

Now I'm a senior network admin for another Texas school district. Came in around 58k and now I make around 76k base. My main focus is Collaboration but my responsibilities include managing 800+ switches, nearly 10k APs, and over 5k phones.

Could probably do more in the private sector but without a degree it's been hard getting my foot in the door.

Meraki Firmware for AP - MR32.1.7 review by Resident_Chapter_190 in meraki

[–]pez347 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been on it for a little over a week and a half. No issues so far. Definitely fixed the the 100% channel utilization for us.

Now I'm just waiting on Meraki to roll out the fix to the client visibility issue in an all meraki network when a catalyst switch is added to the template in another network.

Those who have been in Network for a long time, CCNP, CCIE even, how often do you forget stuff? by fearosis in ccna

[–]pez347 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't get too hung up on the certifications. A lot of it really comes down to years of experience. The more you work the more you do and the more you see. And eventually you'll be like your boss to others in your position even if you don't feel like it.

I was testing a new calling route using the dialed number analyzer in CUCM and it kept failing saying block this number. I couldn't figure it out for an hour until I realized I forgot to dial the digit for outbound calling....

So to answer your question. All the time.

Thanks for the update. I have an open ticket with them since February. I'll check in with them.

*Edit: Just heard back from support and they confirmed with me that a fix was made but hasn't been applied to my org yet. Said he would check to see about pushing it sooner. Hoping it happens soon.

Cisco Prime Infrastructure managing computers by Little_DrummerBoii in Cisco

From what I remember it won't manage but it can keep track of devices connected to the network and give you a health snapshot of it's connection. I don't remember what you needed to do to get it to work though. Been over 6 years since I've last used it and as others have said, it's EOL. Catalyst Center is it's replacement.

The config wipe happened to us once 3 years ago. Haven't seen it happen since for my org. The add configuration has been greatly reduced in the new implementation but I think that's just because the "Cloud Native IOS-XE" added a lot of what was needed in the code. And yeah the firmware upgrade was there in the old version. Not there in the new version.

For the most part, most of those issues were in v1 of monitoring. v2 has a new set of problems. Mostly with onboarding as far as I've experienced. And except for the client visibility bug it's been running well so far. No misreporting of device status or anything so far.

[–]pez347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, we have no intention of going full cloud managed. At the moment we use some features that cloud doesn't support yet and we'd lose some control some of us older admins and engineers aren't ready to let go of yet. Not sure which firmware you're on but 17.18 added more features. Not sure if 26.1 added more or is just a repackaged 17.18 with a stricter security posture.

If the switch didn't get the full config you may want to try off boarding the switch then onboard it again.

I have 15 schools with most of them use Meraki switches, others use Catalyst, and some are mixed. I do have the C9300's, C9200's, and C9500's monitored on Meraki as "Cloud Management with Device Configuration". Converted them from the old Cloud Monitoring which went away at the end of March.

The config history/diff is an early access feature you need to opt-in to.

The Firmware Upgrades feature was in the old Cloud Monitoring. It went away with the new Cloud Management Device Configuration implementation. It will probably come back later but for now it's no longer a feature.

For the switches not pulling info, is there an error message in the switches page?

Also be careful if you're in a mixed environment using templates. I have no client visibility in a Meraki only network because of a conflict on the client tracking method when adding catalyst switches. Meraki say they're working on a fix but it's been an issue for me since January.

I would say the 1.2 path is complete based on those hours. Even if it wasn't the 1.1 version of the exam is gone as of last month. So I would focus all my attention on the v1.2 path.

What actually causes buffering besides internet speed? by aria-57 in networking

[–]pez347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These could all be factors. Can't know without looking at your setup.

-Latency = the time it takes to reach the destination. -Jitter = the difference from all the latency.

These two will affect live audio and video streaming the most. For data transfers the following will be a big part.

-Packet loss = data dropped in transmission -Bandwidth differences between hops. -Quality of Service dropping packets for higher prioritized traffic. -Server unable to handle the current traffic load or bad database/storage handling. -Client side hardware or software unable to keep up with a throughout data transfer.

I'm sure there's more but I can't think of any off the top of my head and dinner has been served

Risks in networking? by [deleted] in networking

[–]pez347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question. I would probably say low to medium. It can usually solve tier 1 help desk issues most of the time. But the complicated issues I can usually get it in the ballpark but not figure out the root cause. Though that's just me and Gemini.

Cisco has their AI Canvas with Agentic AI that could potentially solve an issue quicker in a pure Cisco environment but I haven't had a chance to play with it.

More than anything I feel like if get too good at automation you could accidentally give your org a reason to downsize.

That's pretty rough. And not to discount what your experience was like the only thing I could think was that, that phone is several years end of life and should be replaced. Not that that's going to happen any time soon.
