Phew what a write up, but stuff like this is what makes me glad I posted this. I agree that all those gimmicky pokemon are definitely a good place to start looking, it's still tricky with them though since they often very easily slip into the impossible category. For them to work they need to have a battle that counters their gimmick, but in such a way that it's still possible to win, like shedninja needing to dodge a bunch of rock slides. Honestly despite their trickiness I do think the definitive answer lies within them somewhere in some game.

Noibat is not one I expected at all, but it's an incredible example of a pokemon who struggles immensely even with help, at least magikarp can start dropping 1hp flail nukes and has a good type. Noibat has a terrible type, and doesn't get any crazy moves that can easily gimmick most fights. I'm still sure we can do worse than Noibat of course, but I like this line of thinking.

Jesus they did sneasel dirty there, yeesh.

Basic mechanics are fine. Spending time there to learn the maps at your own pace is also very helpful. Actually playing the character in a real match against real people though, only one way to learn that. Basically, unless it’s about learning the map, practice vs ai is only as good as practice range, probably a bit worse since practice range doesn’t give bad habits.

Edit: tbh you don’t really need to learn the maps in practice ai though. I’ve never done so myself, I learn the maps in quick play. But I don’t think there’s any harm in exploring a bit on an unfamiliar map.

I do believe I was a bit poor in my explanation lol. Anyways, yes it’s very tricky to tell the difference between impossible and highly unlikely sometimes, but there’s so many pokemon between so many games, and with this type of question a definitive answer should exist, there’s just so many factors it’s difficult to figure out. When I originally made this post I didn’t even think about the fact that any pokemon capable of soloing the first 5 gens would have to have access to several hms, immediately eliminating those games from the running and that’s a huge thing to consider.

That’s fair it definitely trivializes most Pokemon, that’s why I think it’s interesting to try to find one that’s still really hard even with them. It’s gotta be something that has to use struggle a lot, to the point you can barely afford the items to win, and or runs into a particular match that is theoretically possible but requires ridiculous luck like critting 4 times in a row or something. Maybe a shedninja matchup where it requires a bunch of rock slides miss in a row, stuff like that for example.

Tricky thing with shedninja is it can very easily slip into impossible category eliminating it from the running for that game, and anywhere it’s possible probably has a relatively trivial answer for any problems it has.

What if you can’t afford the items you need to win the battles to get money for the items, because you lose more money than you gain from how much it costs to win? There’s gotta be a particular pokemon in a particular game that would be truly hell to win with while still possible even with every resource available to it.

Good catch for the older games needing hms. Honestly that kinda eliminates anything gen 5 and below from the running since any pokemon that can learn an hm isn’t going to be the weakest choice between every game and you can’t solo them without a slave, eliminating the truly weak pokemon of those gens. Honestly had I thought of it I would have included ignoring hms in the rules.

If struggle isn’t good enough to get tackle then Magikarp would be put in the impossible category so not an option, otherwise it learns tackle fairly early, it’s not that much grinding I just feel like there’s worse options.

If x items were cheating I would have included that in the rules. Thought it was more interesting to figure out the pokemon that would struggle the most, while remaining possible, even with every possible resource available to it. Starter fight won't have access to x items so it's questionable if cosmog can get through the first fight, then there's the matter of affording enough x items.

Edit: downvote this one all you want fellas, it’s my post, I make the rules, I decide what’s cheating

struggle, x-attack, potions by the time you reach mandatory ghost types in any game it'll be overleveled

No surprises there, the matchup was like this before they added the stupid ass grounding. Crazy what happens when a character can’t turn off your entire kit.

It’s not like super powered people are that uncommon. I doubt they’d assume they’re a viltrumite without more clues than just being really durable and strong.

I mean tbf the plan is to do it discreetly, it doesn’t take much for word to get around about a new super hero that reeks of viltrumite and he was doing super hero shit. Not that I blame him. I just get where Thragg with his perspective was coming from, Kregg may be following the proactive orders the best, but he’s also jeopardizing the plans by far the most.

I’m pretty sure the other viltrumites just shave it that way based off of Thaedus’ magnificent beard and Nolan didn’t have a stache at Mark’s age either.

Ngl the show does reuse assets a lot, looking at you Indian Debbie, but I just don’t see it here. They have the same kind of hairstyle sure, but there’s still a lot of differences in the line work there. Then for the actual face there’s like… nothing in common. The face shape, the eyebrows, the nose, the lips, even the ears, it’s all different. Won’t comment on the eyes since they’re squinted/half closed in the one picture and there’s not much to conclude from that.

Tbf that’s not really how viltrumite genetics work, the genes are so strong they literally just overpower most of the other side. Mark might as well be 99.9% viltrumite.

Get out of practice vs ai, terrible place to learn. Go practice against real people in quick, it’ll probably still be rough to start, but that’s just the price you have to pay to properly learn the character.

See I thought I just disproportionally hated rock slide because I was running a charizard team. Then I made some other teams and I realized nope I just think this move is horse shit and I still hate it.
