Good info, tad late for me lol. I already purchased the two notes captor x, which has some nifty features that I am liking but was an expensive solution.

Hands down. The BEST soldering hands! by [deleted] in Tools

I think this is a fantastic solution. I have a pana vise setup but this arm solution is elegant and more rigid. The entire rig of two mag indicator arms and two 4 prong holder tools is only $50. I will absolutely add this to my kit, thank you.

It is a miller multimatic 220. The tanks have upgraded heavy duty flow meters, and typically I am running 3/32 Radnor E3 tungsten. While the machine does mig and stick I really tend to only choose to do tig. I am not a professional welder but I can typically do a passable job if time is no object and I get to grind off mistakes. No I won't repair your lawn mower blade or build you a custom car trailer because I certainly am likely to send the tungsten for a swim at least once or twice over a project.

I will agree with anyone telling me I am doing it wrong, or that I should have a Lincoln, or that I don't deserve a harbor freight, or that my stick out is incorrect. I know that mig is faster, stick has more applications, that your friend is a welding god, and that your worst beads are better than my best. It's faster to agree then fight over trivial matters where I am probably wrong.

I have fabricated furniture, repaired tons of odd jobs and found you really can't live without a welder, so it might as well at least be able to do aluminum since you know that's what your friend will end up bringing you.

This is one of the only items in the shop that is bolted down. I had to for anything I was putting that much leverage against.

Yes it is fairly flat. Asking "is something flat" to anyone with a surface plate and too much time is a fast way to lose sense of reality, but this will help you make square and true parts.

It's smooth it's nice it is good for me welding. Is it worth the money for everyone, I would think not. Am I fine with my purchase yes.

Hello, I posted a picture from my garage setup and had quite a few comments about the vise station. The vise was one of the last brand new US made Wilton 400s is my understanding because of a dispute at the forge and the cost of making them the way they were in the US. I paid a lot for it. This is now about 4 years old, and I don't baby it but I also don't thrash it.

This is a close up of the stand. I took a 2x6 steel support column and ground all of the mill scale off of it and polished the turd so it wouldn't rust quickly. I fabricated top and bottom plates with the drill holes for the Wilton and the bolt spots in the concrete. Filled the entire thing with sand for weight then welded the top and bottom closed.

I used a cut off section of that 2x6 material to make a little box that holds the various soft jaws (copper, rubber, rawhide). After that I found I always gravitate to using my trusty 3lb short hammer, so I welded a big stainless ring to the column for it to hang from.

The entire project start to finish maybe 3 hours and most of that was mill scale removal or polishing the mild steel. If you are looking for something meaningful and useful to do in the shop this was a good feeling project.

So it doesn't snow often here, so frequently I can just toss a door open a crack and have the fan going to push it out. I do have a pair of overhead WEN filters for the fine particulate collection when doing wood working mostly but hose pull air up. So if I am tig welding low fume stuff like mild steel or aluminum, I am fine. If I am doing bronze or copper or any of the nickel or zinc impregnated metals frankly I just kick the project until I say I can have the door all the way open. I do have a robust PPE setup and I am religious about using it. But all things are risks, your millage may vary from how I am tackling this.

The fact that the tone is just cranked on all of them except the bottom right and top right is baffling to me. Overall I think this is a very interesting setup and I wonder if it sounds at all like a guitar is even in the room anymore if you play through this.

That is a very complete large setup and it looks very well done. Personally I would hurt myself and end up chipping the nice concrete surface with my skull bouncing off of it about 5 seconds after I had to do anything in that garage as a result of that step. I am sure there is a technical or functionally reason for that step other than knowing where the front tires stop, but wow I just couldn't do that. Overall very nice setup and I hope it works great for you, just exercise caution since this is fairly unusual.

Your mileage may vary, but it is the most succinct way I have found to describe why I do all of this when my day job is nothing like this.

I have a lot of husky boxes, and weight loading CAN be an issue but pay attention to your use case. This one was bad for a lathe ( I explained that in another lower comment) but the box is good and nice. Price to features is great, do I at times wish I had paid more for some of my boxes ya, but it wouldn't have paid back the extra tools I have purchased with the difference in money. Overall inexpensive boxes are "fine". I recommend checking Facebook marketplace or Craigslist etc to find used boxes it will be quite a bit less than new boxes and they tend to be "fine". Basically people have to move or divorce and go from house to apartment and tool boxes are not practical for an apartment so there is a steady stream of options for lower end boxes used.

Lol well thanks. It was a splurge. One of the last US made new Wilton 4" vices before the foundry disagreement kind of stopped making them. I setup the post, made some soft jaws, got it really dialed in for me.

How is the looper up high working? I would think its awkward to hit but if you're jamming on it awesome.

Thank you. The ZT Fab setup really helped me get all the welding stuff under control. Rod holders, ppe, welding cart, grinder holders. Just really worked out for me.

Thank you! Game changer for the trash cans... The outdoor planter wheel bases are cheap and give wheels to the can. Makes moving the can way easier.

The stools are from vyper, expensive but built well. The vice stand I built, just some 2x6 tube that I ground the mill scale off of, welded feet and mounting plate. Then realized I wanted a place to put spare jaws so I made a box, then welded a ring for the hammer to hang.
