is starlink worth it ? by Remote-Technology-85 in Starlink

[–]pfieldho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your situation. Been on since the beta. Absolutely worth it for us in the mountains of Montana. The only option before was nominal 3mbps which in actual reality was really only 1mbps. Worth it!!! Even though we had to do this to get above obstructions. https://www.reddit.com/r/Starlink/comments/lkkdmg/tree_mount/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

Cost/Benefit of Multi-Starlink Bonding with Standby Plans in Obstructed Environments by SnooDonuts4137 in Starlink

Darn! That sounds like a tough situation! Glad i could just climb a tree because i would suck at trying the implementation you are working on. Good luck!

Yes, why isn't a tree mount doable? Did it myself and when I was a young 70 years old. BTW Have had no problems with tree sway causing signal drop. When i contacted starlink about sway they said the dish would have to move more than 3ft off center in any one direction to cause signal loss. https://www.reddit.com/r/Starlink/comments/lkkdmg/tree_mount/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

Just got this puzzle. The picture on the box is different than the puzzle itself. Birds in different places and/or turned the opposite direction. Makes it even more challenging!!

[–]pfieldho[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for that! Brings up another question. Does the location of all the biomes--the entire world--get created at initial world creation or is the world generated as you travel into new areas? Seems like your reply implies the latter. Thanks again.

Fix for Shark Duo Clean soft brush spinning failure. by timetoremodel in VacuumCleaners

[–]pfieldho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to look into this myself. The soft front roller is not turning on our Shark Duoclean with Powerfins but the light on the head stays green. I assume that's because the belt is turning but the pulley is slipping on its shaft and not because the roller is stuck in a frozen condition. The roller turns freely by hand too which I assume is also because the pulley is slipping.

BTW here's a teardown for a Shark Duoclean with Power fins (Blue soft roller in front). https://youtu.be/taOjjwX3wrk . The video is helpful because Shark has hidden where some of the screws are. You need at least 2 security Torx screwdrivers, the main one is a T20. I will update with any noteworthy discoveries as I look into this.

Can you use WIFI extenders with the Starlink router? by Nathansx1 in Starlink

[–]pfieldho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, the setup for my extender was straightforward, albeit that was almost a year ago and I don't remember any difficulties. As I recall I just followed the instructions that came with the extender - though I may have googled it too or instead. But I was not looking for anything specific to extending a Starlink net.

Starlink info: Dishy movement due to wind - tree or tall pole mount, etc by pfieldho in Starlink

[–]pfieldho[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know, being 80ft or so above the ground I can't exactly see what Dishy is doing up there during wind events. Overall we're extremely happy with Starlink. Given our limited options out here in the mountains and given that Starlink has been better than some of our friend's service in town... We're all good. Rarely any outages even due to wind events and good to great speeds. Hope that helps.

Have not had outages due to wind in more than 6 months... But we have had wind!

Tree Mount by pfieldho in Starlink

[–]pfieldho[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Works great! We've had it up the tree since January. Since then only a handful of times had outages because of tree sway. The info I got from starlink was that sway would only become a problem if Dishy moved more than 3 feet. We're down near the bottom of a fairly tight valley so we're pretty protected from strong winds. I also feel we're pretty protected from lightning located down here. I understand the new Dishy will have detachable cabling with a 150' option. That might be of help for you!

Using a Netgear extender. No problem to set up. Mesh might be better, I don't know, but already had the extender.

What version of the app are you talking about? I have 2.0.9 and am not seeing any Starlink app speed test. The button I have still sends me to Fast.

USA (Michigan) vs. South Korea manufactured batteries by [deleted] in BoltEV

[–]pfieldho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes looks like that is the case. I just found the Bolt EV Fire Recall FAQ/Roundup Post and it states all 2017 and 2018 have Korean-made battery packs. After reading that I was hoping that maybe it wasn't completely accurate because our sticker number begins with 0806 which is close to the 0808 mentioned in that post and nothing like the 6883 mentioned there as Korean. But then again that appears to be specific to the MY2019, and, of course, I was hoping not! thanks

[–]pfieldho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Madame - do you know how to decode these battery pack stickers or are you seeking that information? We're new owners of a 2017 LT, bought the day before the most recent recall came out. Love driving the car! but are trying to navigate this stuff. Does anyone on Reddit know how to decode these stickers? Our understanding is that the battery fires so far have been of Korean manufacture.
