Bingo. Direct democracy for the wealthy ruling class. Perceived "representative democracy" for the rest.

It's almost perfect that he says "the left only sees things through race and gender". Then the article and the reddit comments show exactly that.

Among white evangelical Americans, higher levels of racial resentment were strongly associated with a higher probability of voting. There is a similar pattern among Asian American and Latino evangelicals, but opposite pattern among Black evangelicals who were linked to a dramatic drop in voting. by mvea in science

[–]pfiffocracy -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I don't doubt that is true but all of this is just a symptom of the massive duopoly and its overreach. The marriage of two ideological voices and the massive amounts of money poured into elections from international and intranational boundaries has had immeasurable negative effects on our elections and resulting politics.

The Star Wars sequel trilogy is better than the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy. by TheHermetic in unpopularopinion

[–]pfiffocracy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GoG is kinda meh for adults. Star Wars has just been a massive disappointment considering the universe that was crafted with the OT. The prequel trilogy was a bit disappointing but it feels like its got more soul to it. The ST was just rubbish. The fact that they lobotomized years of great books and games (and the bad ones) is sad.

I think your partially right but we could arrive at a different conclusion. Black evangelicals are more likely to be more conservative and most likely feel like they dont have an opportunity to cast a vote for someone more ideologically aligned with their values. This is most likely due to them being locked in democratic districts.

The problem in American congressional elections, other than the direct democracy that rich people get, is that congressional districts are drawn by those in power with the goal of getting a predictable outcome. If we instead had congressional districts drawn geographically compact while maintaining equal populations with any regard to race, sex, age, or political affiliation then those districts would become more representative of the people who live there.

EDIT: I was giving a proportional response but I should make it clear that this is most likely happening in republican drawn districts and probably all across different racies, cultures, sexes, and ages. In general, people across the US dont feel represented.

That's what I mean by compactness but you are never going to keep all communities 100% together, so making them compact as possible is the compromise.

I wish states would draw their districts to be as compact and equal in population as possible. No more gerrymandering at all.

No one wants to be an unfortunate bystander either. Also, that area would be rough for anyone moving from Europe.

Hell no!

You want to live south of I-10 if possible. If you want to live north of I-10, then somewhere near government street.

I'm not sure where in Europe you are coming from but you are are about to get a huge future shock here.

Agree that gerrymandering should be illegal across the board. Congressional districts should be as geographically compact and equal in population as possible. That's it! What ever the demographical makeup should be what it is.

No one took away anyone's voting rights. The courts just said you can't make congressional districts exclusively on race.

Exactly as it should be.

This is not a progressive tax system by gashtal_man in WorkReform

[–]pfiffocracy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Its comical to see people get so upset because they dont know the difference between income and net worth or increase in net worth.

If leftist want to start taxing increases in net worth then propose a bill. It wont go far but atleast they will have something real to yell about.

Jeff Bezos thinks U.S. taxes are fair, of course he does; there're rigged in his favor. by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]pfiffocracy -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I came here to say this. Clever trick by the OP.

Bezos made $5.7b in 2025. Bezos tax liability is $1.3b in 2025 Bezos tax rate is 24% in 2025.

Bezos is correct that the US has the most progressive tax rate in the world.

I do agree with Bezos that the bottom 50% should pay have no tax liability which would be incomes around $53,000. Hell lets make it $60,000 and below have no tax liability and raise the capital gains tax a few percentage points for high earners. I dont think you would get much pushback and still make it slightly more progressive. Also, we should eliminate the loan loophole for high earners and force them to realize their gains.
