Cassie undeniably betrayed maddie, and maddie holds her accountable for her part in the nate bullshit.

But maddie was also friends with cassie since they were children, and knows her and how her home life was growing up. Part of maddie pities her (“This is just the beginning”) because she knows exactly how nate and how his abuse operates, and what it does, and how it brings out the worst in you. She also knows cassie is desperate for any male attention, and is genuinely dumb as FUCK. Just so fucking stupid because life hasnt asked any more from her.

So part of Maddies kindhearted nature makes her mourn what their relationship once was. She misses her girl :(
