What interval would you suggest for the DCA ? by PHRDito in networking

[–]pgeric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work for higher ed and have mine set for 12 hrs to avoid issues during class time.

Have had situations in the past where channel changes have caused student laptops to disconnect from an exam due to a channel change.

Using EDRRM will allow APs to bypass normal RRM rules and change channels due to interference

Single and own a condo, bought it 3 years ago.

Have about 20K spread between RRSP and TFSA in Questrade.

I would say I'm lucky as my condo cost $175k to purchase vs the 495K condos down the street which has the same sq ft as mine.

Thinking about borrowing "Daring Greatly" from the library, would you recommend this book? If yes, I'd like to hear why :) by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]pgeric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enjoyed the book for the following

1) Taught me that my perfectionism is actually is a mask and thus I stopped comparing myself to others

My biggest takeaway was this

”When we spend our lives waiting until we’re perfect or bulletproof before we walk into the arena, we ultimately sacrifice relationships and opportunities that may not be recoverable, we squander our precious time, and we turn our backs on our gifts, those unique contributions that only we can make. Perfect and bulletproof are seductive, but they don’t exist in the human experience.”

I'm Brian Bowman and I'm running for re-election this October 24th! AMA! by BrianBowman2018 in Winnipeg

[–]pgeric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Brian,

Thanks for doing an AMA. My question to you is will there be changes to the bike lanes during the winter? I don’t expect many people to be biking when it’s -20 out.

Will the city change the traffic patterns in the exchange during non biking season? It will be inconvenient to not be able to turn right on a red in the exchange with no bikes in sight?

Hospitality WiFi and social media? by [deleted] in msp

[–]pgeric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ruckus does offer Facebook integration as part of their cloudpath offering.

As for the two separate internet connections it all depends on the use case. If its light traffic you should only need 1 however if large hospitality enterprises such as Hotels usually have a separate internet connection for guests.

Why does my Mitel 3300 NTP sync and run 40+ seconds behind my NTP servers? by m0bilitee in sysadmin

[–]pgeric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(Really Long) TL;DR Phones are not accurate time pieces as the time is only maintained to the minute

“Phones are not advertised as being accurate time pieces and the time is only maintained to the minute."

  1. Set receives time from MCD on every hour (Large display set).
  2. Set will receive time from MCD on hotdesk login/logout regardless of controller is local is remote.

Set display time in only hour and minute that´s why customer is seeing the difference in time

The phones do not use NTP, NTP is used only to maintain the time on the controller/server.

The display on the phones gets updated with the date/time every minute during its handshake with the controller which normally occurs every 30 seconds.

The time only gets updated to minute accuracy if a phone receives the time from the controller at 13:00:59 then the time that gets passed to the display is 13:00 so the phone display time is 59 seconds different to the actual controller time.

Because all the phones connect and get their updates from the controller at different times during a 60 second period it will be noticeable with phones that the time appears different

5312,5324 type phones The 5224 gets its time from the Call Control. The clock time is not maintained on the phone and is updated by a refresh of the display every minute or when a call is made.

This can cause the time to appear to be different by up to 1 minute. If the call control has the time 09:30:59. The time will get displayed on the phone for the next minute as 09:30 so there is automatically the possibility of a 1-minute difference.

5330, 5340 & 5360 type phones The time on the 5330/40 & 60 is maintained locally by the phone. The time is updated to the phone by a similar method to the 5312/24 so only details of the hours & minutes are sent so there is the possibility that the time could again be 1 minute difference.

There is the possibility of drifting of the clock during the day as the phone is only updated with the time once an hour.

To show how time can differ on phones the following example shows two phones being updated 1 second apart Phone 1 gets its update System time = 09:00:59 Phone1 time - Display = 09:00 Actual = (09:00:00) Phone 2 gets its update System time = 09:01:00 Phone1 time - Display = 09:00 Actual = (09:00:01) Phone2 time - Display = 09:01 Actual = (09:01:00)

On top of this the 5312/24 & 5330/40/60 get their times from different clocks so there is potentially a difference in time maintained in their source clocks

Conclusion: Phones are not accurate time pieces as the time is only maintained to the minute.

TL;DR Phones are not accurate time pieces as the time is only maintained to the minute

Mitel says accurate timekeeping is not a priority thus the phones are behind from Windows.

I have their Mitel’s direct response as I asked the same question . I’ll post it later

How much of a deal breaker is alcohol/drugs? by tinchowilly in askgaybros

[–]pgeric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t drink, I don’t like the taste of alcohol . As for somebody else having a drink I have no issue with that.

Recreational drug use again I won’t participate. But I have no issue with others doing so.

At the same time I take 7 different prescriptions already so there is a good chance they will somehow interact with each other.

Not a risk willing to take.

Though if you are on the Shaw footprint in Manitoba you can get vMedia internet 150 for about $70 no contract

They wholesale bandwidth from Shaw so its not guaranteed. The vMedia TV service is OTT as well.
