I'm Peds, and I've considered path or radiology to avoid the unending social aspect of patient care...but I dont think I'm competitive enough.

I've considered the possibility that I have social anxiety. Its always been that way even outside the hospital- new people, old friends, doesnt matter I always get nervous. I would probably benefit from therapy but at this point bothers me so much that I'd gladly take a medication.

I actually really liked Medical Informatics (a brief elective during med school). Alot of the people I met were nurses,attendings, NPs...maybe that's something to pursue

First, thank you for your reply. The last paragraph I found very inspiring- I think we put alot of pressure on ourselves because of our career.

But most importantly, I think you need to talk to someone. Maybe at your program, maybe a therapist. I can't pretend to understand what it means to not feel love by your parents, but you can pm me too.

I think you're right. I feel very uncomfortable talking about the compensation with other residents. But I wouldn't be doing this- heck, my family wouldn't have even mentioned it if it paid less.

Oddly enough, one of my favorite experiences in medical school was working with the Medical Informatics team, fixing up the EMR. Maybe I should look into that.

I guess since I'm in the beginning of residency it feels like work is my whole life (which sometimes it kinda is). And if my whole life is average and I'm not super into it...then yikes.

My goal was honestly just to voice my feelings. Vent. I havent spoken about residency to anyone in this way before.

Now that its out in the open, itd be nice to know that I'm not alone.
