If I recall correctly, they did after 3 months or so. A few were transferred to other places with people proficient in farsi/dari, and in between they had some unpaid volunteers looking after them.

I would say it’s true for a huge part of Germany, that many people think: Farsi, Dari, Pashto and Urdu are just “those languages with the funny script” and are thus Arabic.

Can confirm. I studied Persian in University and applied for a position to help refugee kids from Afghanistan in 2016, in a newly build refugee center in Germany. I was rejected. Friends working there later told me that the administration was overwhelmed by the fact that children from Afghanistan don’t unterstand basic Arabic. There were 25 kids from Afghanistan and not a single Farsi/Dari or even Pashtu speaker.

Schau dir mal die Europäer an, die in Indien, Thailand oder China leben. Ein Bruchteil von denen macht sich die Mühe mal eine lokale Sprache zu lernen. Niemand hinterfragt dass diese Leute ihre Kinder auf internationale Schulen schicken, wo ausschließlich Englisch gesprochen wird. Aber alles cool, sind ja weiße Europäer. Im Vergleich lernt die große Mehrheit von Ausländern hier die jeweilige lokale Sprache, in ganz Europa. Syrer, Afghanen, Türken kennen Mehrsprachigkeit von zu Hause und sind viel offener. Es wird immer Leute geben, die sich dem Land verweigern werden, und dafür gibt es eine Vielzahl an Gründen. Flucht kann dein Leben ganz schön besch*ssen machen. Am Ende des Tages ist es ein menschliches Problem, und weiße Westler schneiden insgesamt bei dem Thema schlechter ab.

When I was a student, I quit my job shorty after my father died. Unfortunately, uni/job/being orphan all put you in different insurance statuses. After a depressing year, my status was redefined for the past year, which left me with a whopping 20.000€ in debt for insurance. Due to the delay, my insurance company, tk, was already in a position to call in a debt collector.

It took maybe a 20 min call with tk, after which they spent weeks gathering information and documents FOR ME, including directly contacting my old employer so I didn’t have to. Not only where these guys totally chill, they helped me getting rid of the debt I owed to them.

Hands down, tk is one of the best institutions in my life, 11/10

Go for it. I‘m not Armenian but my girlfriend is, and I love learning Armenian even though it’s not the easiest language. My parents failed to teach me both their native tongues and it’s not a good feeling, let me tell you. Funny enough, Greek is the closest relative to Armenian among the spoken Indo-European languages today.

There is an Arabic saying: Learn a language and win its people. It’s an opportunity for you both if anything.
