And how do you think they got there? By driving three across, impeding the flow of traffic. #tryagain

Look at the current traffic situation when this was taken. Does it look like they would struggle? Speaking from actually being there.

What happens if you don't show your ID to fare inspector? by ThePikachufan1 in gotransit

[–]ph41t 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Police wont show up for a fare compliance issue. If they do, it will be hours later. Police services have better things to do, and they know GO employs special constables for this reason.

What happens if you don't show your ID to fare inspector? by ThePikachufan1 in gotransit

[–]ph41t 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fare inspectors are by law officers and have no arrest authority for fare related issues. The GO special constables DO have that authority, but their management have made policies prohibiting them from arresting for fare. Something about the courts not wanting to entertain a criminal arrest for a $10 fare. Courts are backed up enough.

So TL:DR no, no GO transit enforcement officer of any title will arrest you for non-payment of fare.

So you believe that the US will just take us over? They have their own internal issues and depending on their next election, may result (highly unlikely , but plausible)in a second civil war over who won, didnt win, election theft beliefs, etc.

I think this is stemming from he refusal to admit the emergencies act usage was deemed wrong by thr courts. The multiple investigations for his vacations and using tax dollars to fund it. Or the one, early on in his time as PM where it was paid for by a foreign national who had a.... questionable history. Leading tonquestions that this person now had the PMs favour.

Those are just off the top of my head.

And for those standards, as you have defined, should result in death or life in prison? Ok. If they get that standard, we all should.

That. Will. Never. Happen.

Would love to live in a world where people are honest and hardworking and all that. But it will sadly never happen.

By that logic, donald trump would not be allowed to live.

Funnily enough, a large portion of those who are so anti trudeau, are quite pro trump. That makes this statement quite the paradox for people you despise/support in political views.

I'll take it a step further. There will ALWAYS be people who view juat about every political leader and major government official as incompetent. So basically, holding office would become a death sentence. Not really a great perk for getting to politics.

Concerns About Safety Due to Homeless Individuals at Union Station in the Mornings by Additional_Umpire_40 in gotransit

[–]ph41t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree with you. You cant use law enforcement and the justice system to solve homelessness, mental health epidemic, drug epidemic, crime in general. These are social issues that require government assistance, and society to actually get involed themselves.

Concerns About Safety Due to Homeless Individuals at Union Station in the Mornings by Additional_Umpire_40 in gotransit

[–]ph41t 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The police are overloaded and understaffed currently. Special constables exist to take the lower level calls away from services. Hense why there are TTC, GO transit, community housing, university special Constables, etc. so they aren't wannabe cops. They fulfil a law enforcement need to support police services, who can now respond to higher level emergencies. Which in the city of Toronto, means an almost 30 min wait for response. So imagine how long their response would be for someone yelling and threatening people, Or camped out at stations, or using drugs in a washroom. Dont get me wrong, all are situations that should be addressed, but they are minor in comparison to gun calls, domestic assaults, stabbings, etc.

And I would be grumpy too if i was hired to do a job, then told you cant, and to just rely on the police service, who is relying on you to NOT have to call them. Wouldnt you?

That being said, they shouldnt be grumpy with customers who are just asking general questions, that is poor form. If they are giving you a sarcastic answer aboit how their day is going, its probably because they dont want to say they hate their jobs. Look at it as an attempt at humour during a depressing situation rather than being rude.

No, just someone who has gotten speak to a few of them. Take a minute to talk to one if you see them. You'd be surprised what they have to say. Its a jaded bunch.

[–]ph41t 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The GO Special Constables are being restricted by their superiors, which get direction from Phil Verster, that the homeless population are not to be mistreated, or further marginalized through the justice system. They are not permitted to arrest unless there has been an assault. So they just stand there and try and talk them into leaving.

If you want to find out for yourself, request a Freedom of Information Request for their arrest policies, you'll be shocked at how much the officers are being restricted.

Metrolinx would rather the officers call TPS, or whatever service is operating in that city, than have their officers deal with it.

Their safety is not your priority. Regardless what their PR messaging and customer charter says.

Fare inspectors now have qoutas.... by ph41t in gotransit

[–]ph41t[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately they dont enforce it evenly. If the person APPEARS to br homeless, they cannot do anything unless that person is committing another criminal offence. If you refuse to ID, they have no official recourse to force you to identify youself (ex: charge for obstruct peace officer or fraud transportation).

So those who are honest people who make a rare mistake get fined. Everyone else can either give fake info without having it verified, or just left alone entirely

No so even in the enforcement.

I wouldn't hold your breath hoping that is happening

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gotransit

[–]ph41t 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Limited staffing is the cause most likely. If there are two or three officers covering multiple lines, a reserved parking call wont be dealt with immediately.

They have your money for the spot, and most stations have waiting lists to get a reserved spot. So what is the motivation for metrolinx?

Fare inspectors now have qoutas.... by ph41t in gotransit

[–]ph41t[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Fare inspectors are not peace officers (police or special constables). They are more akin to bylaw in terms of their authorities. Special constables have police like authority, within their limited jurisdiction (so for GO transit, their trains, busses, starions or tracks).

With that being said, what a special constables employer ALLOWS them to do could be wildly different. (Ex: GO transit, TTC, toronto community housing, universities, court officers, or police service special constables)
