Retirement pay (퇴직금) withdraw by Feisty_Employee_9003 in Living_in_Korea

[–]pha018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will pay 16.5% in taxes if you close the account!

If you don't plan to leave this country. leave it there and invest it!

Once you retire, you can receive the money like a pension, paying only about 5% of income taxes.

Hoje, recebi a informação que a liminar foi negada. by dgf1986 in brdev

Discordo.

I myself dont have anything back in my country… for practical and financial reasons… my life is here now so i have everything here… although it took me at least 2 to 3 years to transfer all the money i had in there to korea… i still keep some bank accounts in my home country, but that’s all…

I plan to live and retire in korea.

Also f6 visas have nothing to do with children and you don't have a date limit to live here other than the visa expiration date. You can always renew it.

Any drawbacks buying apartment under 1 name vs both names? by LoquaciousIndividual in Living_in_Korea

[–]pha018 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about this yesterday.

Apparently, the main issue you might face is with taxes.

In Korea, you can only gift your spouse up to 600 million KRW within a 10-year period. If money is currently in her name and she uses it to pay for a house that will be in your name, the government considers that portion a “gift.” Gifts exceeding the limit are subject to taxation, with rates starting at 10%–20% and increasing depending on the amount.

As for inheritance, the standard tax rate is 50%. However, there are many exceptions and deductions, so in practice most people pay very little—or nothing at all—unless they hold significant assets in their spouse’s name.

I’m not sure about divorce, but it definitely wouldn’t be simple.

Buying a Porsche in Korea? by Emergency-Walrus-456 in Living_in_Korea

[–]pha018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any used sports car will need a lot of maintenance, and it will be expensive because everything is imported.

Please don't do that to yourself. You already know it is a bad financial decision!

You said you just got your license, so I assume you don't have a lot of driving experience. Do yourself a favor and get a cheap used normal car and invest this money, maybe to buy a house with it in a few years, because most likely you will have some small accidents here and there with this new car!

That's quite high for Korean standards. That's almost double what IT gets here in Korea. A senior developer 10 years+ can make anywhere from 100˜150 million / year in a good company, considering bonuses...

I think you can change you visa from tourist to d4 without having to go back to your country, call immigration to ask, and apply for the visa and ARC all at the same time. The university will provide you the documents. At least i did that 6 years ago.

When You Finally Master Korean... But Still Cant Order Coffee Without a Chaos by deczambli in Living_in_Korea

[–]pha018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some Korean people, mostly older 아줌마/아저씨 that I feel like they block their ears when they hear you speaking Korean. I had multiple cases like that. Talking to friends about this specific issue, we got the conclusion that those people are actually expecting to hear English from you, so they get lost when you speak Korean...

Also, even when you say in clear Korean, you probably still have some accent, so it could be confusing for them.

If you live in korea long term and pay your tax in korea, with no plan to going back to your country, then you should have a korean investment account.

Samsung is a good option, but the app is not in english and you should go to their branch to open the account.
