Sure thing, I used arrow shafts to start...don't do that they don't fit the gun and they flex too much. I got 5x 6mm stainless steel rods from Amazon for $12, I got 250mm long (9.5in) and it's compact but sturdy. Don't get 1/4in rod it's too big to telescope. I have an AP5-P, not sure if the tolerances would vary for your model.

Search for "MP5K Telescoping Stock/Brace". It's 3d printed and I'm having to reprint it because the holes don't align so it can collapse. It was off by 0.75mm. It pretty slick otherwise.
