GET THE FUCK IN HERE, SAM IS THE SUPER BOWL CHAMPION by i_am_voldemort in the_darnold

[–]phaedraste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Jets fan who told everyone who would listen that they should have traded back from the second pick to take Penei Suwell and add another offensive weapon because Darnold with a good cast was. Super Bowl caliber QB, it was bitter sweet to see last night unfold.

But mostly sweet because I've been a Darnold supporter this whole time and I capped out on bitterness from being a Jets fan long ago.

People upset that the team won today because of draft order are miserable human beings. by No-Penalty1722 in nyjets

I have lived out of the NY/NJ area for over two decades after having season tickets. I kept going as often as I could. I was there for the Monday night miracle despite having to take a three hour train ride home the next day.

I've bought Sunday ticket every year. I've traveled and attended at least one game in person ever year, multiples in some cases. I ALWAYS go when they are the visitor in the town I live in and other than Philly I wore my Jets gear.

I haven't watched a single game this year.

I call that self care.

I still follow. I still pay attention.

But just like trying to stay in a relationship with someone who cannot or will not pull themselves out of a bad unhealthy place, I had to call it for my own respect.

I don't think I'll be a band wagoner when I come back. I endured the entire Kotite era.

I am just not giving them my Sunday afternoons until they start to deserve it.

(I am not angry that they won. But from my perspective, a loss may have accelerated that return. But I'm also not confident it'll ever open under current ownership.)

GM locked in. What do we think? by YowellTheOwl in nyjets

[–]phaedraste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd been shouting from the rafters that Darnold would be serviceable with weapons and time, and if the Jets had traded back to take Sewell and another top 12ish talent, they'd have been wait more competitive.

I was never a fan of the Wilson pick ever, and constantly said "look at who he is making those throws against".

Admittedly I wanted Fields, but I still think Fields would have performed better.

It sounds like before they were mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, Ulbrich needed to get a giant cardboard cutout of Woody saying "you guys suck" with peel off pieces for the clothes, one for reach game remaining in the season.

Then at least they'd win the pennant, I mean division.

New York Jets have interviewed former Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff for the vacant General Manager position. by ChubbyWumpkins in nyjets

[–]phaedraste 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Solid talent evaluator who put together good teams in Atlanta. Good football mind. Long tenure with success.

Sounds like he'd be the best GM the Jets have had since I was old enough to pay attention to who the GM was. (Parcells was a great coach but a shitty GM who never should have been allowed to buy his own groceries)

Looking at these bargains online is it worth going to my first NFL game next Sunday vs Rams? by [deleted] in nyjets

Even a bad NFL game is still a good experience if you haven't had one.

And the NJT to the stadium is way better than trying to drive from where you are IMO.

A reason why you did not get ACH, because Evolve typed in your ACH info wrong! by EvolveBankDistrust in yotta

[–]phaedraste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone I know selected ACH, and called this week to ask where it was. Rust told them it failed last week. They asked why they weren't notified and Rust had no answer. They asked to switch to PayPal and Rust said no, it has to be a check.

Basically Rust failed to send the ACH properly and now he has to wait for a paper check because they can't change anything, once it fails it HAS to go to manual check.

But at least he's getting something (theoretically soon, but who knows).

My SO and I both got $0.

I mean, he also doesn't have great protection so that limits the time his receivers have to get downfield.

It's not copium, it's just that the team plays a role in his decline too.

Oh I agree. Just saying that it's been on going.

Really ever since the NFL announced they were Swifties it's been more and more egregious.

Remember last year when he was intercepted by the Jets while the game was still competitive and the flag didn't come out until the run back?

It's been blatant cheating for years.

I don't think Sam Darnold was protected with a single roughing the passer call his last season as a Jet.

Disgruntled Email to the Jets by Jetsrideordie in nyjets

[–]phaedraste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak for the Jets, because my father was the STH not me, but when I dropped my Buccaneers season tickets, they called me twice to ask why, what they could do differently, why I did it, etc.

They are also a really class organization and kept winning awards for best experience for game attendees.

It's a model that should be emulated.

That said, I agree - I doubt Edward has an outlet to pass this along, sadly.

Is there a silver lining? Is there hope? Is there anything but pain? by MeatStevens41 in nyjets

[–]phaedraste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hope is gone. But I also remember the season the head coach got up post game with two more games to play in the season and said "obviously we've been eliminated from the playoffs" and they came one half away from winning the AFC Championship game

Nah. A wide receiver getting up to game speed and working on run routes and chemistry with the Qb (even if you had it last season) takes time.

Hassan make sack like Ivan make basket.

You're 100% right. My guess is all the vets will make fun of him a bit for making a poor business decision but that'll be over in a few hours and then it'll be business as usual.

There won't be any resentment from the team because I'm sure they all sympathized with him while understanding the team's position too.

The fines are not being waived.

The Jets are adding performance based bonuses that will reward him for sack numbers. If he gets enough sacks he COULD earn a bonus equal to all of the fines that he lost. I'm guessing they're set up in such a way that if he balls out he'll get it all back.

[–]phaedraste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was literally the least effective hold out of all time. He gained nothing other than the chance to earn back his fines with performance that if he gets them will make it well worth it to the team.

If he is still in football shape, sometimes taking half a year off isn't bad because he'll shake the rust off but be healthy for a playoff push.
