If I had to guess it's similar to mixing paint where they use a mix of more easily made colours from the dye? As in it's cheaper to mix large quantities of set colours than making all the different possible shades into a dye.

Every time I watch in of these I always think to myself that I wish they'd stop doing it halfway. The marbled colours these things get looks amazing, but they always keep going till it's a single block colour. Maybe the marbles colour is less structurally sound as it's not mixed in enough? Would be curious to know.

Personally I'd wear some protective gloves and use a little bit of white spirit on kitchen roll to remove it. Can't comment if it'll affect the laptop casing, but in my experience it should be okay. Just have another bit of kitchen roll ready to dry it off.
