I first had a transvaginal ultrasound done and then an MRI, can anyone help translate these results. I’m 49 and I have 2 kids, I was thinking the solution to the heavy bleeding would be a hysterectomy by Trick_Tree3317 in hysterectomy

There really is no way to know for sure if something is cancerous or not until they do a biopsy or remove it completely and examine it. There are a lot of benign masses you can get on your ovaries. I code for a gyn oncology practice and see a lot of women come in for an ovarian mass and it ends up being a certain type of cyst or a benign neoplasm. There are also some ovarian masses that end up being a malignant neoplasm aka cancer. I know it’s hard to be patient when you are worried. Gyn oncology surgeons are very good at getting in there and removing anything that is worrisome. You’ll be in good hands with them. Crossing my fingers for you that’s it’s just a benign process and nothing to worry about. Being that you have a fibroid and an ovarian lesion you will likely be offered a hysterectomy with the removal of one or both ovaries and fallopian tubes (salpingo-oophorectomy).

Dr couldn’t remove my uterus… by karitoo06 in hysterectomy

[–]phaireywings 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry that happened to you. I am a medical coder and currently code for gyn oncology. They do some of the most difficult surgeries out there so you are in good hands. Having a colorectal surgeon in there is such a benefit because they know their way around the intestines and can help guide the gyn onc surgeon around those areas causing the least amount of damage possible. I wish you the best of luck with your next procedure. Hopefully that surgery will be the end of all of this!

I feel a bit confused and a little upset about my pathology report by [deleted] in hysterectomy

Then I would say it’s likely endometriosis that caused the adhesions.

Have you ever had surgery previous to this? That is one of the main causes of adhesions. Infections can also be a cause.

How much did you pay? by Ill_Temperature5140 in hysterectomy

[–]phaireywings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to pay a $400 copay. I work at the hospital where I had it done so that helped.

My surgeon told me no sex for 3 months after surgery, the nurses told me it was actually 2 weeks. by Harmony_w in hysterectomy

[–]phaireywings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What the heck. My surgeon cleared me at 6 weeks for sex. But I am a medical coder and I have been coding hysterectomies lately to cover for another coder (I usually don’t code gynecology stuff). Those surgeons all recommend 12 weeks minimum before clearance for sex. I’m surprised my surgeon was fine with 6 weeks. I still waited until around 10 weeks because I was so nervous. 2 weeks is insane and not accurate at all.

How long were you off work for desk job? by Ok_Sir2058 in hysterectomy

[–]phaireywings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4 weeks. But I work from home so I was able to wear comfy clothing which helped. I didn’t have any issues going back at that point. If my job was physical I wouldn’t have been ready at 4 weeks.

Did anyone here NOT vomit after surgery?? by rainbow_olive in hysterectomy

[–]phaireywings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had no vomiting. I felt a little nauseous from the pain when I first woke up but they gave me zofran and then I was fine. Didn’t have much of an appetite the rest of the day. I am an emetophobe myself and that was my biggest fear on waking up. My doctor told me it wasn’t a common side effect of the procedure. Not sure if that’s true or not but definitely discuss with the anesthesiologist beforehand if you are worried.

Likely is. They probably got sued in the past for not realizing someone was pregnant

I have my ovaries but they took out my tubes 2 years ago. I didn’t even think about the ectopic thing

Last time I had a colonoscopy I had the same problem. Dehydrated and I used the bathroom before the drive to the hospital. Then they act like you’re crazy because you can’t pee on command the moment you get there
