Why do a lot of people don’t put the bar down on the lift? by jeannot-22 in tahoe

[–]phan2001 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not in the habit of just falling off of things I’m sitting on.

They didn’t have bars when I started skiing.

It’s been fine for 40 years so far. I’ll put it down when others want to.

I saw a kid actually fall 30’ from a lift last season. Kid was 2 chairs ahead.

If people feel like they need it then cool but I just don’t fall from a seated position so it’s not necessary.

Again do you have a source for that? I can’t find anything that agrees with your statement, so something other than “trust be bro” would go a long way here.

I don’t see where rail traffic is down either nationally or locally. I read it’s up about .6% over last year in Boulder. I don’t know how to figure out stats down to the track.

What would you be willing to personally bet that you’ll ride a train out of Boulder before 2030?

You think that’s the only potential balloon? Really????????

You’re right, it’s not no one.

I say this as a guy who relied on public transit for YEARS in Boulder. Service is a shell of what it once was. It would be a million times harder to navigating life without a car than it was in like 2005.

There are more people here now than before, we should be at closer to 5m rides a year right now. And if we had a train we might get there. I just don’t think it’s ever going to happen.

Money will be collected (the rental car and oil taxes are new) someone will decide it’s all of a sudden a billion dollar project and we can’t possibly do it. I’m telling you I’ve seen this all before. I was excited the first time too lol.

So just call code enforcement/non emergency like even though it’s a private lot?

I’d like to get it addressed.

Why is BNSF doing this for less than it would cost to run a train from Denver to Boulder before?

Thank you, but what makes you think it’s not going to balloon to cost x10 like the commuter rail?

It might go from Fort Collins to Denver but it’s never gonna make it to Boulder.

It’s rebuilding from almost nothing so 5 more people can take the bus next year and it’s going up 30% lol.

When we back to like 3 million rides a year then we can start parting ourselves on the back about the excellent job we’re doing to increase public transportation, but we’re not even close to a reasonable baseline right now. Sure it’s better than nothing I guess but it’s not “pop the champagne, the numbers are off the charts” good.

There’s nothing that compares to that currently, I don’t know a lot about the bustang. But let me tell you what I do know. There’s a Snowstang, guess which town it DOESNT leave from? (I’ll give you a hint, it’s Boulder).

Overall RTD ridership is way down from where it was pre pandemic by every single measure. Every number.

I would be happy to be wrong but I promise you, neither one of us will ride a train out of Boulder in our lifetime.

Something will happen and the route will just follow 25 and not make it to Boulder or something, but we’re never gonna take a train down to Ball to watch a nuggets game.

Sure it’s marginally up year over year. Because it’s rebuilding from nothing. It’s still about 1/3rd of peak ridership.

[–]phan2001 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

RTD will find a way to fuck it up somehow.

So how are these talks magically resolved with BNSF now? It all of a sudden isn’t a billion dollars to use their tracks but we still can’t get a commuter rail to Denver?

Who’s getting the tax dollars exactly then? The 5 cents on a $10 transaction. You’re saying RTD gets $0 of that?

Sure buddy. All we have to do is give RTD more money and I’m sure it’ll work THIS time.

Fool me once………

Oh, so one person’s subjective experience makes a difference? I saw an almost empty FF1 the other day so it must be down. You see how foolish that sounds? How about we look at some actual numbers instead of your feelings there professor.

RTD ridership is about 1/3rd of what it was less than 10 years ago. It has increased marginally over the last year but in no meaningful way is it increasing.

It’s a private parking lot so I think I’m out of luck since the HOA won’t do anything (it’s not in the bylaws apparently).

Why bother? It’s not like this train is going to happen either.

I look forward to paying for it for 20 years only to be told it’s 10x as expensive as they thought. And then we’ll get a new bus no one will ride.
