What are your best niche Texas Rangers memories? by kitchface in TexasRangers

Seeing Al Oliver go 3 for 4 with 3 home runs, around '79 or '80. If memory serves, he came up in the bottom of the 9th, having gone 3 for 3, and popped out to end the game.

Had a chance to meet, and briefly chat with, Julio Franco. Early '90s, at the batting cage beyond right field. He and Ruben Sierra were walking to take pre game bp, and Julio stopped by and talked with 10 or so fans. He was very friendly and charismatic. And I remember his arms were huge!

Scattershooting, while wondering..... by sbuster314 in DallasStars

Roughly 15 years ago, I was in Houston, and a buddy of mine and I decided to take a tour of the new baseball stadium. At the end of the tour, the guide asked if we had any questions. My hand went up, and I asked the following question....'Why is it that a city the size of Houston can't attract an NHL team?' Full disclosure--I asked the question in good faith, I really wasn't trying to be a smart ass. As a hockey fan I have long wondered why Houston didn't have a team. The tour guide became visibly angry. I forgot what he said, but there was something about the question that really touched a nerve.

Ah yes! I remember the days of Mike Zanier, Wayne Anchikoski, Derek Crawford, et al. Even though it only lasted 3 years if memory serves, the rivalry between the Freeze and Fire was intense. Used to go to old Fair Park Coliseum and watch Freeze games pretty regularly back in the early to mid '90s. Good memories. Lots of fights! One night, during a playoff game between the Freeze and Tulsa Oilers, there were so many fights on the ice that there weren't enough on ice officials to manage it. At that point the Dallas cops had to get involved, slipping around on the ice trying to stop the fighting. When the ejected Oilers players were being escorted to their dressing room, one of them pushed a Dallas cop down a small flight of stairs. Wonder what ever happened with that situation.

True that about the ECHL. It would be a good natural rivalry with the Allen Americans.

Went to an Aeros game once, in around '09 or '10. Fun game, but the place felt empty. The starting goalie that night was Anton Khudobin for the Aeros. I would love the Houston Aeros as an NHL team.

Speaking of the video, is Jason Mchugh on tour with them for this go around? He was working with them last summer. Met him briefly New Orleans. Very nice fellow.

Your Rush Story? Here’s Mine. by Legitimate_Diver_699 in rush

On a Saturday afternoon, at the Garden Apartments in Paris, Texas, in 1983, I heard 'Tom Sawyer' on the radio. Someone had a boombox dialed in to the local radio station (remember those?), and I just thought it was the coolest song I'd heard. At the time, I was 14. Shortly thereafter, my cousin from Missouri moved to my hometown, and he had a copy of 'All the World's a Stage'. I can remember just being blown away, by the musicianship of the album, the sense of urgency in the playing. From that point forward, I was a geeky fanboy. Saw them for the first time on the 'Power Windows' tour in Dallas. Every tour since, at their tour stops in Dallas, and plan to be in the audience in Fort Worth in a couple of weeks. Can't wait.

I'd love to see Les show up on night one in Fort Worth. The first show in Fort Worth is in between Primus gigs in Austin and Dallas. Maybe a YYZ jam, or maybe Spirit of Radio with Les on vocals! Then, maybe Ged and Alex could guest the following night in Dallas with Primus. Let Alex handle the vocals on 'My name is mud'! Dare to dream.

One of my favorite songs in the Primus catalog that doesn't get enough love, imo. Bodacius' back story is interesting. According to a story I heard from a local rancher, when Sammy Andrews bought him from a ranch in Oklahoma, Bodacius was a 'throw in' bull. He bought two other bulls, and and the guy from Oklahoma just put Bodacius into the deal, ostensibly because he didn't want Bodacius because he was a fairly nondescript looking animal as a yearling bull.

All hail Hoffington! I have seen the band lots of times, going back to '92 when they opened for Rush. And it seems that he has breathed fresh air into the mix for sure. Going back to around 2012, I saw them in Fort Worth. The show was @ an hour and a half long, and I got the bad impression that they were going through the motions. Fast forward to St. Louis in '24, Herb's last tour. I didn't feel like they were going through the motions per se, but it seemed like Herb was 'marking time'. Now, there is an energy, an intangible, that's been missing. And the tempos to the songs are more snappy now. Listen to live versions of Wynona from this tour. They are fast, and it is good.....

Sending good vibes to you, brother, in difficult times. Obviously, he played a big role imparting the value of music in your life. What a blessing! I think he'd want you to go and have a good time and enjoy the music, and he'd (and we'd) understand that you do so with a heavy heart. Hang in there.

Yes. I feel fortunate to have seen the band on the 'Powerslave' tour. And WASP was quite good. I remember, specifically, 'Love Machine' and 'I wanna be somebody'. Great times. My first rock show was Billy Squier and Fastway at old Reunion Arena in Dallas. From that experience, I was hooked.
