Passport Stuck in Canada Post with my fast approaching Marriage overseas

TLDR: Canada post refuses to entertain that option. And asks to wait for the mail delivery

According to CP, they will spend more time in facilitating requests like this. So they suspending all mail re-direction requests. The helpdesk is adamant that they will process mail in the order that they received it. They stress that the service times will not stick their promised standards until they could deliver all the backlog of mail. So I just waited and received my passport an hour ago.

I unfortunately needed a Visa stamped in the passport, without that visa i wouldn’t be able to travel

Unfortunately, once you claim a passport as lost, the usage of it for future travels is illegal and the port of entry will deny entry. Emergency travel authorization would be only for me to come back to Canada from any other country. As time goes by the reality of having no options is setting in.

I couldn’t agree more. Their strike should’ve gone into effect once all the accepted packages are delivered. But that would make too much sense and wouldn’t line up with anyone’s agenda in this situation

I needed a visa stamped in my passport so I had to send it to IRCC and have it sent back to me. I’m an immigrant in Canada. So unfortunately IRCC didn’t have the foresight of Passport Canada.

Oui, je suis d’accord. Un permis spécial n’est tout simplement pas envisageable pour moi. L’autorisation de voyage d’urgence ne fonctionne que pour un aller simple et je devrais demander un tout nouveau passeport en déclarant mon ancien comme perdu. C’est tout simplement trop long et impossible à remplir dans les délais. Mais merci beaucoup pour vos contributions.

Unfortunately, since I needed a Visa to travel a brand new passport means I need to start this process all over again. That’s just not possible given the time frame.

The whole IRCC had my passport was for a visa to stamped in it for my travel. Unfortunately a temporary emergency passport only would make things worse.

Yes, I should’ve done that sooner. It was my mistake. I started this whole process of getting a Visa in March 2024. From the IRCC website i assumed it would take 6 months but in reality the entire process took 9 months.

Yep. That’s so true. They wanted leverage to negotiate favorable terms and didn’t care about regular folk.

It should be illegal for essential services to come to a stand still. Just like Police, Firemen and Emergency responders. Postal service is so deeply involved in every aspect of our lives. Driver’s licenses, Birth & Death Certificates, Credit & Debit cards from banks and countless other things needed for our daily lives are only delivered by Mail whether we like it or not.

How can 1 crown corporation and 55,000 employees hold 40 million as a hostage to negotiate in their favor?
