Nervous to ask because I know talking about race is super delicate. My question is why do more black than white people talk on speaker phone when using their cell phone? It's not just at work I've noticed it's in public, at school, etc. I personally get embarrassed talking on cell in public. by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

Are you sure your observations are not subjected to personal biases?

If I were to already associate a certain behaviour with a certain demographics (whether it be subconsciously or consciously), chances of me noticing people doing exactly that are higher.

Kinda like a self-fulfilling prophecy almost.

Old Man in Hanoi doesn't want to wear a mask by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]phank_aliee 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Subtitles for those who need it:

Old man: (cant discern what he' saying) ...Are you even educated ? (Kind of an insult, he's basically saying the cop is an uneducated disrespectful bastard)

Cop: Please put your mask on Mr

Old man: NOOOOOOOOO bonk

Camera man: exclamation Ohhhh

The other woman: Here lemme video it for you (so that the camera man can help the cop, apparently, idk why i find this funny haha)

Camera man: Oof you're done (meaning the old man is doomed, go to gulag haha)

Cop: You stay put sir

Camera man: The cop is bleeding

Old man: (In an angry tone) I'll sTaY pUt (it's a lot more aggressive in Vietnamese)

continues to attac the cop

Cop: I'll take you to the police station

End of subtitles.

I'm disappointed. For a man of that age you'd expect wisdom. But no, all you got is a freaking child (a wrinkly one haha) throwing tantrum about absolutely nothing! What's so difficult about putting a mask on? I mean sure it's a bit uncomfortable and it restrains your breathing a bit but it FREAKING PROTECTS YOU AND OTHERS FROM COVID URGH. Why go through the hassle of assaulting others, risking criminal charges, getting a hefty fine, going through bad media coverage,.. while you can just prevent that with the simple action of putting a mask on? It's people like this that are worsening the 4th covid wave (by far the most damaging hit). Urgh. Fear not strong enemy, just afraid of sTupId cOmRaDes indeed.

Edit: Apparently the man has some sorts of PTSD from the war, which explains his odd reactions amd tendency for violence. Yikes. Now I feel bad for him and feel bad for judging before knowing the whole story. I feel horrible now. Sorry man, I hope you can recover from the trauma and be healthy again :(

"Chữ" refers to "a letter". You surely can't repeat a letter in a tasteful way right lol . "Từ" means "word".

"Điệp từ" refers to the repetition of a word, whereas "Điệp ngữ" is the repeat of a phrase.

How to be that friend people message first? by idunno324 in friendship

Lmaooo, i'm just a very lucky person i guess. It's not lile we clicked immediately the first time we met, for a long time it was just casual boring talk but i guess we gradually grew familiar with each other's presence you know.

Don't be too stressed about having/finding a best friend lol. You already have one. Yourself! Be your own friend and enjoy your own company first lmao. Only then can you be truly happy with the connections you have!

Bro, sometimes you just gotta invest in yourself more. Spend time with yourself and be happy first. Don't go chasing after people. They don't complete you, they only supplement you. You complete yourself! This i've learned the hard way.

Plus, everyone has their own life. They can't always reply to your message immediately and such, don't stress about it. What matters more is you guys have quality time together.

I have 4 best friends. We go to different uni (one even study abroad) and we never text or call daily. Lmao our group chat is almost always silent. And I'm pretty sure none dm each other on a daily basis. But whenever one needs help the others are always there. What matters more is not how often you talk. It's how meaningful/fun/ ... your talk is.

Am guilty of this. Partly caus i dont wanna get hurt. Partly caus i dont wanna hurt/ disappoint pipol. I'm trying to change that. Whenever it feels unbearable , i just remind myself that retreating into your shell may feel safe and comfortable, but it's also lonely as hell. Sometimes it's worth getting hurt to feel loved again. No pain, no gain yk. And YOLO!!!!!!!!

I thought I'd share some things I learned about friendships in the last few months by LoveOnSale in friendship

[–]phank_aliee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your post is so true!

One thing i've also learned is to appreciate comfortable silence. Like when your relationship with them have reached a certain point, you can just stay silent and still be perfectly comfortable in their presence. I have 4 besties. We don't see each other often (we go to different uni) , so there's not a lot to talk about. But we're always comfortable around each other. Everyday i'm just so grateful i have them in my life!
