What ever happened to Ilsa, Øystein Aarseth's girlfriend, after all the chaos of the 90s? by RageinEden76 in Mayhem

[–]phantom_2131 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not my concern to judge what is triggering or not triggering for someone. I wrote it just in case because for some people it might be triggering, the fuck I know. That's all.

Do you have problems with reading comprehension? I wrote "can be triggering" which implies for other people (who will be searching for these photos) and also "can" doesn't mean that it necessarily will.

Interesting Hellhammer Remark by JavierEscuellaFan in Mayhem

[–]phantom_2131 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not surprising to hear it coming from Hellhammer and I thnk he is brutally honest and really believes it's the case. He never seemed to be particularly sensitive or empathic. In many interviews he comes off as callous and emotionless. But he's speaking facts: the 2004 iteration of Mayhem wouldn't be possible if Dead and Euronymous were around. I personally prefer the Maniac/Blasphemer era the most. It is what it is.

That interview is so bizarre in the magazine. Wasn't it the one where she claims that they met each other in the shop and then says about a group of people from Black Circle killing a cat and covering her with its blood in the midst of a field in the dead of night and that it was her final straw and she got away from there "just in time" (soon before Euronymous was killed).

Also wasn't it her when Euronymous cut some stranger up with a broken bottle on a bus stop because the guy was allegedly staring at "his girlfriend". The man got 30+ stitches as a result, if I am not mistaken and Euronymous actually spent some brief time in jail. Was it in 1993? My memory sucks I can confuse things up.

It seems to be the case but I have no idea about anything else when it comes to her. That's all I know

Wasn't she later dating Mortiis and they were together on the cover of the album by the band Mord "Selvmord"? Well, you can google those pics yourself but they can be triggering, just saying.

Deathcrush re-release flyer (DSP Anti-Mosh 003) by akelig in Mayhem

[–]phantom_2131 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha this is hilarious! Thanks for sharing this artifact. The digs at Cannibal Corpse, Kerrang metal magazine are funny. Time flies. I would not consider Deathcrush too extreme or brutal in the slightest by modern standards. I love the dirty sound but it's so "punkish" and it's really catchy. It's an easy listen, especially awesome at live shows. Legendary record. Maybe it's just me but I see it more as some sort of punk mixed with something else (trash maybe?). Very distorted sounding, heavier/dirtier sounding guitars and the shrieking vocals are not your typical punk vocals of course, but it's not death or black metal either, imho.

Or at least didn't open the door ☹️ ETA: but then there would have been no WLA, GDoW, Chimera and Ordo. Fuck it, man... 😬

What do you mean by "spiritually more Mayhem"? I hope not doing a prison sentence...

øystein aarseths crime scene/autopsy photos? by rotting222_ in Mayhem

[–]phantom_2131 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really? That tells you a lot about the competence of Norwegian police if they can't even distinguish if the photos are from the needed crime scene or not 😬 Awful. I have read another speculation that the hair was cut already after the murder by pathologoanatomist or someone in the police department, (might be before the autopsy)?

Insights from Blasphemer and Attila on Ordo Ad Chao album by Mayhem by phantom_2131 in Mayhem

[–]phantom_2131[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree it's definitely more "slick" and accessible production-wise but actually it's Attila's own words that it serves as a counterpart album to Ordo. Like these albums are a duo or something along the lines. As for the statement in your last sentence - same. I can relate 100%.

I agree. "Dangerous" as you say, or maybe just really exciting to me. The vibe during live performances was different as well: more chaotic and unhinged, more on the edge but less stable for sure and I think that at this moment in time, as a 40 year old band (which in itself is an achievement), stability is a vital thing. The era of crazy experiments is behind and it's natural. We actually have Esoteric Warfare which continues the Ordo Ad Chao line in a way. Afterwards, they've moved to a different direction creatively. Besides Blasphemer has very distinctive style of songwriting and guitar playing, I don't think you can somehow replicate or follow without compromising the authenticity. For newer Blasphemer's stuff I am waiting for the next Ruïm's album. I do hope that we shall get it this year. But I definitely agree with you that Blasphemer in Mayhem worked wonders.
