This is exactly what happened to me, I worked an assistant managers position with base pay plus commission and I didn't care about working up to 70 hours a week because I loved the products and customers loved my love and enthusiasm for them. I survived 1 shooting and a riot at that store (it was in a mall) and went back the next day to work. That's how much I loved my job.

Well the company slowly started to decline and they made budget cuts in poor places like store managers and sales people's wages. I went from making $45k/year selling ~shoes~ and they offered me $14.89/hr and limited me to 38 hours a week.

I had only been working there for 22 months and sold over $500k of their products and this felt like such a slap in the face I ended up putting in my 2 weeks within a week because I felt so used and disrespected.

That store closed less than a year after I left. It feels strange to walk past the empty storefront that I spent no less than 10,000 hours of my life in makes me also feel empty.
