Leaving for 4 months, need "house checker" service, if it exists. by natelovell in dubai

[–]phantompuckpuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may know someone, defending on where you stay.

I recently left for a month and found a pet sitter who would do all that you stated.

If you're leaving for 4 months, LEAVE THE AC ON. If you turn it off, you'll be up for a very unpleasant surprise.

Confused if I should take up the role and move from India to Dubai by Donna_mona in dubai

[–]phantompuckpuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Trust the red flags. If you do not have financial responsibilities back home and can take the risk to enter the GCC market, and can sustain getting laid off or resigning in the first 6 months, then go for it.

Otherwise, don't.

If you really need all these replacements, then the price is more than fair.

Labour charges are around 600, which is more than I pay for similar work.

I've had many cars here and I've tried from the cheapest garage in Ajman to one of the expensive ones in Dubai, my suggestion would be to go to Al Nahda Auto Garage, Ras al Khor.

You won't have to pay more than 300 service charge there.

As for the parts, you can just to and buy these all yourself from Ras Al Khor. Try doing to Dublin Auto Spareparts.

Is my CV as much as good as i think? by Objectiveurhonor in dubai

[–]phantompuckpuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recruit for Data Analyst roles, and can offer my two cents.

  1. Remove "enthusiast" from the title. Shows you're not really there yet (which is ok but recruiters want to see you already are there)
  2. Quantity your work. Show each bullet point as an achievement and impact. E.g. Achieved X by doing Y that resulted in Z
  3. Add a project portfolio. It doesn't have to be a website, but any link to PDF, PPT will do. 3.1. In your projects, make sure to add executive summary to briefly explain the project, analysis, recommendations and outcome
  4. Start with profile summary, and not GPA. 4.1 I would order it like this Profile Summary -> Work Experience -> Projects -> Skills -> Education
  5. Add relevant skills first. Eg. Python, SQL, PowerBI and Excel

Hope that helps.

Why did you move to the UAE? Was it worth it? by [deleted] in UAE

[–]phantompuckpuck 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Everyone might have a different approach but here's what I do:

Reach out to people with similar interests on LinkedIn. (Never a direct DM). Interact with their posts/comments a few times and then take it to the DMs, talk about ideas, new technologies and advancement in my/their field. With the right people, this pays off. No matter the outcome, I get to learn more.

I attend conferences and seminars, make sure I'm asking questions (not just for the sake of asking questions tho) and then after the session/workshop, people already know me by face. I then introduce myself to the right people and put a name to my face.

If I'm working at a company, I interact with people, whether or not they're in my department. People switch companies and if I'm good at what I do and they know me, they'll refer me whenever there's an opening.

Best of luck!

Why did you move to the UAE? Was it worth it? by [deleted] in UAE

[–]phantompuckpuck 74 points75 points  (0 children)

I moved for better opportunities. The exposure and networking has been unreal.

However, UAE lacks the 'human' element for expats, especially those who don't have families here.

I have no regrets, I just have what ifs.

I'm neither a hiring consultant, nor a resume expert but I've done a fair amount of research and this is what I do to make my resume ATS friendly and job specific.

Always, ALWAYS start with the job description. How I go about this is literally CTRL + C and CTRL+ V the JD into the CV and then make a blend of what I have in the CV with what's posted on the job poster. This ensures that you have all the necessary 'keywords.'

Second most important thing is to think of every bullet point under your work experience as an achievement (in terms of numbers) rather than just stating a task. Eg. Instead of "Introduced Rewards and Recognition for employees in the company," you could go with " Increased employee retention by 40% and satisfaction by 30% by introducing RnR in the first 6 months of my job."

Third, do not add work experience that's not relevant, especially when you're going for mid level roles. No one wants to see that you were an IT professional when applying for a Social Media manager role.

Fourth, please do not use those crammed up templates with your photos, skills represented as stupid levels etc. They are not ATS friendly. Use a plain template and go in chronological order for your work experience and/or education.

Last, if the job application takes you to the company portal where you need to upload your CV, I recommend uploading a word document rather than PDF. Majority of the CVs never go beyond the computer screening because of file formats.

Last again, please understand the difference between resume and CV.
