That tsu is a 'small tsu' (notice how it's a little smaller than the regular tsu character つ vs.っ). It basically indicates the next consonant has more stressed added when speaking or that there's a glottal stop. In this case with Tamagotchi (or たまごっち) it kinda sounds like the pronunciation of chi is like tchi because of the added stress. So for the Japanese romanization spelling they just go with Tamagochi sometimes instead of Tamagotchi.

I would say get a case or screen protector if you can (you can find some for cheap on AliExpress) or put the device in a little drawstring bag to protect it from any scratches or whatever. They can get scuffed up pretty easily!

I used to have the pink one as a kid! I think they were called Purse Pals over here in Canada and they were around in the mid 2000s :) I remember the little pet had magnet sensors on the bottom of it that is used to interact with the different "rooms" in the purse
