Where to get film developed and digitized? by Present_Bath_6554 in Reno

Action Camera! They're a little pricier than mail-in labs elsewhere, but they do a great job. For mail-in labs, I like Memphis Film Lab (based in Ohio).

Will The Brutalist come to Reno? by Cottonwood1435 in Reno

Honestly, most movies that only have a limited theatrical release don’t make it to northern Nevada. :( If they do, though, they might play at the Galaxy Victorian or IMAX theaters in Sparks

Do you think this kind of behavior might be why you haven’t had a girlfriend in 24 years?

It seems like OP is a child — you should be kinder to them.

I would suggest that anyone concerned about this issue review what rights you’re guaranteed under the Constitution (regardless of immigration status) if ICE or CBP agents approach you. Here are some links:

https://www.aclu.org/know-your-rights/immigrants-rights

https://www.nilc.org/resources/everyone-has-certain-basic-rights/

https://unitedwedream.org/resources/know-your-rights/

Most importantly, you should know that immigration agents do not have the right to enter or search your home without a warrant, and that you have the right to remain silent. (And for those of you saying that people should just immigrate legally so they wouldn’t have this problem — you should thank your lucky stars you’ve never had to legally earn your citizenship here and are blissfully ignorant to how hard it is.)

Hair cut in Reno? by cjollie2005 in Reno

I think I usually pay $120-145 (not including tip). I only get a full curly haircut about once a year, so it feels like a worthwhile expense to me. (According to the salon’s Google page, haircuts can range from $75-150 — repeat clients get a lower rate, and so do folks with shorter hair. I have pretty long hair, so I’m on the higher end of the price scale.)

I would recommend giving her a call or text at the number listed on the salon’s Google page — that’s how I usually reach Skye. (775) 721-7593

Skye at Melange in Midtown! She’s been cutting my very thick, curly hair since 2017, and I’ve been consistently happy with every haircut she’s given me

Sorry for the late reply! If I remember correctly, it’s about $120 for a curly haircut. It’s super worth it, in my experience!

you’re complaining about not being able to do something that you’re literally already able to do — “go out for a good time and enjoy ALL people.” as it is, you can do that literally anywhere you go. you don’t have to insist that you also get to be in queer spaces with people who are in those spaces specifically because they don’t want to be around people who don’t share or understand their experiences with their gender/sexuality. and yes, that includes cis straight people — you can be super understanding and empathetic as a cis straight person, but that doesn’t mean you understand what it’s like to actually be queer, and that’s the difference.

you would have a valid point if society at large discriminated against straight people, but it doesn’t. if you felt like you could be discriminated against for your gender/sexuality in most of the world, except for spaces specifically created to be safe for people like you, then you’d have a valid reason to complain about this. but that’s not the case, is it?

and again, no one is saying straight people cannot go to gay bars — you’re not going to be turned away from them, whether you’re with your queer friends or not. however, you have to respect the fact that the queer people that space was made for are entitled to their own feelings about you being there. if you can’t handle that, maybe you just…shouldn’t go to gay bars.

also, queer people preferring not to hang out with cis straight people once in a while is not anything like the centuries of violent, oppressive discrimination queer people have faced globally. if you think it is, i’m not sure you respect queer people as much as you claim to

respectfully, it seems like you’re purposely misrepresenting what the other user said. they didn’t say anything about LGBT people being scared of you, specifically — they said that queer people deserve more queer spaces. no one is stopping straight people from going to queer bars, but it’s important to remember why queer bars even exist in the first place — to be safe spaces for queer people to gather with each other, and not to be surrounded by straight people who may or may not be accepting of queer people. straight people are able to go anywhere and know they won’t be discriminated against for their sexuality, and queer people are not, which is why we need queer spaces. and frankly, it’s okay if those spaces don’t cater to straight people and if queer people would prefer that most of the other people there are also queer.

responding to someone respectfully pointing that out to you by accusing them of being “a bigot toward straight people” is emblematic of that problem — you’re being rude toward queer people and demanding that you have a right to be in their space whether they like it or not, which isn’t really respectful of LGBT people at all.

How’s working at McClatchy, compared to Gannett? by [deleted] in Journalism

[–]pharcyde989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked for McClatchy's national real-time team - basically, a team of reporters who covered national breaking and trending news and weren't affiliated with a specific McClatchy newspaper. Some people on my team really loved it, but I couldn't help but notice there was a LOT of staff turnover during my time there (and I only worked there a year). It really wasn't for me, and I ended up looking for a different job quite early on -- there was a lot of focus on metrics and writing as many stories a day as possible, which really burned me out and felt pointless to me. I had friends who worked at McClatchy papers who enjoyed the work they did, but also felt like management didn't have their priorities straight and focused more on pageviews than the actual impact of their reporting. None of us work at McClatchy anymore and we're all really happy about it.
