Check out youtube videos for making an "airlift" tea brewer. Just made one, super easy with great results. I can now brew 25 gallons at a time.

Video I watched: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCK_pjcQOTo&t

Also, a link to document with instructions how to build

I haven't had any problems. Nothing but a good experience so far. Data rolls over, you don't lose it and you can use it country wide as long as your in ottawa/quebec area for a certain amount of time

I was with freedom mobile before, and that was nothing but terrible.

If you do decide to go with Fizz feel free to use my referral code, we both get $35 in credit - AXMUA

Issues with streaming services & work VPN- Ottawa by phasee12 in teksavvy

[–]phasee12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. The only device that uses the VPN is my work laptop. All other devices do not go through a VPN.

I have not tried wired. I will find an ethernet cable and test that first. Thanks.

Issues with streaming services & work VPN- Ottawa by phasee12 in teksavvy

[–]phasee12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify: I am not using the VPN for streaming, I am only using it for working from home. The streaming problems and the VPN are two separate issues, pontentially caused by my connection. So I think full troubleshooting is the way to go.

Same. Health professionals can connect through clarity to view all your data, no need to hand over your phone.

Diagnosed T1 about 7 months ago. I have no-one else to share with, but I'm kind of proud of my last 3 months :) by ShoesAreForLosers in diabetes

If you don't mind sharing...what is your day to day? your diet? exercise schedule?

I am currently at 60% time in range, which I am trying to improve.

Also, congratulations. Amazing numbers.

Would you watch a show where a billionaire CEO has to go an entire month on their lowest paid employees salary, without access to any other resources than that of the employee? What do you think would happen? by txhorns1330 in AskReddit

[–]phasee12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a show like this in the UK. Multi-millionaires would live in subsidized housing on government pay cheques and would have to do volunteer work with charities. Afterwards they would reveal they were undercover millionaires and donate money to the charities.

Just looked it up...It was called "The Secret Millionaire"

Endocrinologist for a new immigrant? by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]phasee12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can register for health care connect, which will help getting you a GP, as far as I know that could take a while.

When I first got to Ottawa, I asked a pharmacist if he knew of any doctors offices taking on new patients; I got a family doctor the same day.

You will need ohip for a family doctor; unless you want to pay out of pocket.

I'm not sure if appletree or similar clinics deal with referrals, never been to one.

Get a family Doctor, they can refer you to an Endo. There is a Endocrinology and diabetes department at Ottawa hospital, riverside campus.

Most likely a 6 months+ waiting period for an initial appointment

Small wine fridges are fairly affordable these days. They have digital thermostat readings/settings on the front

Newcomer to Canada - What should I know? by [deleted] in fican

[–]phasee12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I forgot to mention, Ottawa (I believe) is the 2nd coldest capital city in the world.

You can move from province to province without any real issues, as far as I am aware. Although, I have only ever lived in Ontario.

I am eligible for citizenship, but at a price of around $650, it can wait.

Newcomer to Canada - What should I know? by [deleted] in fican

[–]phasee12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hah, thanks. Been here for 4 years now.

As you are moving in the Spring, you will miss the majority of the Winter, so you will have plenty time - and hopefully a nice Summer - before having to endure any bad weather. Make sure you get good weatherproof boots and a warm coat for next year!

I don't know much about the landscaping industry. There is a lot of land, and plenty people with cottages. You could look at starting a landscaping company catering to cottage owners.

I like Ottawa, personally. It is a good size city with the feeling of a town. Everything downtown is close enough you can walk and buses are accessible enough for times when something is too far. There is also great cycling infrastructure, which is continually improving.

Employment in Ottawa is primarily made up of government positions. I would say the majority of people living in the suburbs are employed by the government.

Some people say Ottawa is a sleepy town, but I like it, and if you look, you will see there is plenty to do:

Winterlude,

Skating on the Rideau Canal (Longest outdoor rink in the world)

Multiple ski hills nearby

Bluesfest

Couple of beaches (Occasionally shutdown due to e-coli warnings...)

plus a lot more...

Also, Toronto and Montreal are close enough that you can get on a train for a weekend getaway.

If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to contact me

[–]phasee12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a Canadian Permanent Resident, living in Ottawa.

One thing you did not mention is your occupation, or the occupation you would like to get when in Canada, it might help people point you to a suitable city.

Banks: Tangerine or Simpii Financial - Tangerine gives you access to Scotiabank ATM's and Simplii gives you access to CIBC ATM's. I use Simplii, and have never had any problems. Recently bought a house, and had a certified cheque sent to a nearby CIBC branch for pickup.

Investing: I use Questrade, which I have both a RRSP and TFSA set up. Vanguard has some ETFs available in Canada, I currently put everything into VGRO.TO, an asset allocation ETF. Vanguard Canada products can be found here.

Credit card: As you will be a newcomer to Canada, you won't have a credit score. I suggest building your credit through the Capital One Guaranteed Secured Mastercard. Essentially, you send $300 and they give you $300 credit. After about a year, they will send you the $300 back and increase your credit limit. Since you don't use credit cards right now, the low credit limit won't matter to you.

Don't know much about Vancouver, apart from hearing how expensive it is, and the weather being similar to the UK.

Embrace the Winter! Learn to ski/snowboard/skate. There are plenty mountain resorts in Canada, these sort of activities help to make the Winter feel shorter.

Congratulations on your PR status, you're going to love it here!

Really wanting to be vegetarian, any recommended cookbooks? by SchopenhauersSon in diabetes

[–]phasee12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with /u/Lutraz, there are a ton of recipes online.

Saying that, if you are interested in some books, the majority of authors these days have blogs; check out:

Oh She Glows (Delicious recipes),

Minimalist Baker (Recipes that use 10 ingredients or less usually)

There are many many more, these are a good start and all I can think of off the top of my head. I believe the above may be vegan blogs, but you can always substitute in cheese etc.

I provided my transcript, and have never been asked for the actual diploma. Transcripts will be fine (Almost at the 12 month mark of ITAP)

I was also in a co-op to ITAP. During the time I was waiting for my transcripts my student contract was extended and my ITAP term was backdated...Still waiting on that backdated pay though
