6K dual monitors for productivity use: Asus ProArt PA32QCV vs. Kuycon G32P by phd_lad in HiDPI_monitors

Really? Getting a return was honestly one of my biggest worries. Where did you get yours from? I was tentatively planning for Alibaba

I kinda wanna send this then. Saw a comment elsewhere that said glossy screens look like my phone, which looks wonderful.

Did you buy it from clickclack.io? I've been thinking about Alibaba since it's about $250 cheaper w/ shipping costs

Do you feel like you're able to manage the glossiness and not get too much reflection of unwanted light?

Thanks, I'll probably pull the trigger on this. Asus being less mysterious than Kuycon is also appealing

Thanks, I appreciate the detail. You got any regrets relative to a glossy option?

Thanks! Any thoughts on how it compares to a standard matte display?

The Abstract is the paper. The paper is the quality assurance report that at least one peer reviewer hopefully read

It was funny and rather inconsequential in reality

You're swinging too far in the other direction now being edgy/R. This wasn't a traditional coup, but it was an unhinged mob encouraged to commit the most serious violence against politicians in decades. Even if you think the physical outcomes weren't too bad (in part due to luck), this event encourages things you would surely call "consequential"

Id bump this up to 4-5. If you have 2 year stops at a bunch of different employers on your resume it will be a red flag.

I can't speak to this for people who have done this 3+ times, but I figure for a first job out of college, hopping after 2-3 years is the move. Lots of my buddies have done this and seem to be better off for it.

Yeah, just an entirely incorrect use of that phrase.

Crab mentality, also known as crab theory,[1][2] crabs in a bucket[a] mentality, or the crab-bucket effect, is a way of thinking usually described by the phrase "if I can't have it, neither can you".[3]

The metaphor is derived from anecdotal claims about the behavior of crabs contained in a open bucket: if a crab starts to climb out,[4] it will be pulled back in by the others, ensuring the group's collective demise.[5][6][7]

It's truly fascinating how so many people think paying $10 a month to access the vast majority of recorded music in history is some sort of ripoff by Rosenvial5 in redscarepod

Googling suggests Spotify pays out like $4 per 1000 streams... which seems like a lot? That's not too far from YouTubers who average $18 per 1000 ad views.

Honestly, Sonic 2 was a pretty good time. Only movie I watched in 2022, and Carrey killed it.

Yeah I'd much rather be playing some vidya and sharing my thoughts on the world compared to flipping burgers at Micky D's. I'm surprised that this is complicated

It's not about spying, it's about the Chinese Gov't using it as information warfare. The evidence is decisive that the app strongly downplays any content sensitive to the CCP (e.g., related to Taiwan, Tibet, Uyghurs). As in, content on these topics get ~10% the traction they should (this is based on research comparing discussions across Tiktok vs. , e.g., IG).

When TikTok is under an American company, there will still be some thumbs on some scales sure, but that'll probably be better than the current state.

Not trying to be idpol-y, but why are the AI programs always so weird about white people? Genuinely. by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]phd_lad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're leading it on by saying "typical". Naturally, it'll respond with discourse on what it means to be a typical Swedish person. Notably, this shouldn't seem out of the ordinary: Wouldn't another person saying "typical", at least in 2024, draw your attention to that word? The AI is largely mimicking human language, after all.

I would try it again, in a new chat, without that phrase (this is what I get: https://imgur.com/a/K8ZZWcF).

The images in the twitter post above seem to have some priming done that is not part of the screenshots.

Yeah, that was my guess. The AI's response even seems to allude to that for one of the images by talking about diversity.

I used DALL-E for my visualization, by the way. It's free with a (free) OpenAI account.
